On August 1st, CESI hosted the board meeting for the Black Sea Submarine Cable (BSSC) project Feasibility Study. This initiative involves an HVDC system connecting Georgia and Romania via the Black Sea, with around 1100 km of 525kV submarine cable. The project aims to boost South Caucasus economies by facilitating energy exports to Romania and Southeastern Europe. The meeting's agenda focused on presenting the final outcomes of the Feasibility Study. Key results from three major tasks were discussed: Power System Studies, Economic Analysis, and Financial Analysis. Attendees included representatives from GSE, Transelectrica, AzerEnerji, MVM & Mavir, and The World Bank. Special recognition goes to CESI colleagues Stefano Malgarotti and Alessandro Crippa, who coordinated a team of 25 experts over more than two years to complete this complex study successfully. #energy #infrastructure #BlackSeaSubmarineCable #HVDC #CESI #feasibilitystudy #sustainabledevelopment #renewableenergy

KEMA Labs, the CESI Group’s Testing, Inspection, and Certification Division, has recently expanded its capabilities to support High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology. With over ten independent testing facilities, KEMA Labs is now the largest HVDC cable testing lab worldwide, involved in over 40 major global HVDC projects, covering 30,000 km of overhead power lines and 7,000 km of submarine cables, contributing to 50 GW of installed capacity. Our Milan facility has been renovated, now featuring three specialized HVDC testing areas with state-of-the-art technology. This upgrade enables over 78,000 hours of testing in a 3,100 square meter space. CESI has been instrumental in projects such as the German Corridor, facilitating energy transfer from the North Sea to southern Germany, and the 1,500 km Kimal-Lo Aguirre transmission line in Chile, a key step in the country’s decarbonization strategy. We also partnered with the Saudi Electricity Company to develop an 800 km HVDC interconnection system, boosting local distribution capacity by over 3,000 MW. We are proud to contribute to global energy transition and decarbonization, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and sustainability. 🌱⚡ #CESI #KEMALabs #HVDCTechnology #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Innovation #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy

The energy sector, traditionally ruled by analog giants, is now undergoing a digital transformation powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This change enhances renewable integration, demand forecasting, and blackout prevention, steering us towards a more sustainable and efficient energy future. However, it also introduces significant data security challenges. At CESI, we're at the forefront of this transformation. Sensors and smart meters collect crucial data, which advanced software analyzes to optimize energy consumption. Generative AI enhances the efficiency, resilience, and security of energy networks. Our projects in energy transmission and distribution involve analyzing databases and developing AI and machine learning tools to provide valuable insights for daily activities and system planning. Digital technologies like advanced IoT devices, 5G and 6G connectivity, and digital twins are essential too. Digital twins, in particular, enable real-time simulation and monitoring of components, systems, and processes. Security is paramount. As our IT Director, Daniele Daminelli, emphasizes, “Developing a solid culture of cybersecurity is vital. This requires personnel to prevent abuses, developers to adopt secure coding practices, and a constant commitment to collaborate with colleagues in other sectors and stay continuously updated.” Our innovative cybersecurity project focuses on enhancing remote access security with Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architecture. Luca Pantini, Head of Network, Infrastructure & Security, highlights that SASE will bring “significant improvements in terms of accessibility, efficiency, and safety of our IT assets and company applications, independently of their position.” AI and digital technologies, alongside robust cybersecurity measures, are key to driving the energy sector's efficiency, sustainability, and security. #EnergySector #DigitalTransformation #AI #Cybersecurity #Sustainability #CESI #Innovation
