Is #AI just a hype? Are we experiencing a new Gartner 's #HypeCycle workflow for the #ArtificialIntelligence? Are we living a #TroughOfDisillusionment after which the Artificial Intelligence will shine? I found a remarkable quantity of insights and reflections points in the The Economist article published on August 19th/2024 (https://shorturl.at/nKPbi) with the title:"Artificial intelligence is losing hype For some, that is proof the tech will in time succeed. Are they right?". First of all... what do you think about? 🧐 The article highlights the latest U.S. Census Bureau results about the #AI adoption in #GoodAndServices (www.census.gov) according to which just a 4.8% of the American companies are using AITools , an #UTurn if compared to the 5.4% of the early 2024. I dug into a little more and found it was a 3.8% with an outlook of 6.5% (November 2023). That's really a #RollerCoaster between #Expectations and #Facts as also highlighted by the Fortune May 3rd / 2024 (https://shorturl.at/Uu8cX) article: 🗣"The rate of AI use among business sectors varied widely, from 1.4% in construction and agriculture to 18.1% in information technology. Larger firms were more likely to be using the technology than small and midsize firms, but the smallest firms used it more than midsize businesses, according to the researchers." 📌 Let's stick some points alongside all that data on our hands for the US market: ➡️ Adoption changes according to the sector and the region (e.g. IT has a AI 18.1% and Colorado a 7.4% when in the opposite construction and agriculture have much lower AI usage (1.4%) with Mississippi at 1.7%). ➡️ A few businesses have layoffs with the AI while businesses with AI commitment it carries staff and talent acquisition (nothing about #upskilling or #reskilling). ✅️ Is it a classic #HypeCycles pattern (source: #Gartner - https://shorturl.at/VjJMc)? ➡️ #Innovation Trigger: A potential technology breakthrough kicks things off. Early proof-of-concept stories and media interest trigger significant publicity; ➡️ Peak of Inflated #Expectations: Early publicity produces a number of success stories — often accompanied by scores of failures. Some companies take action; many do not; ➡️ Trough of #Disillusionment: Interest wanes as experiments and implementations fail to deliver. Producers of the technology shake out or fail. Investments continue only if the surviving providers improve their products to the satisfaction of early adopters; ➡️ Slope of #Enlightenment: More instances of how the technology can benefit the enterprise start to crystallize and become more widely understood; ➡️ Plateau of #Productivity: Mainstream adoption starts to take off. Criteria for assessing provider viability are more clearly defined. 💡 If so... #TimeWillTell, AI is here to stay but my suggestion is as simple as straightforward: don't set your business on relying totally on a single point of failure! We don't control the evolution of the AI.
