Today, July 8, marked the groundbreaking ceremony of AESC's future gigafactory for batteries in Navalmoral de la Mata, Cáceres. The plant is scheduled to begin production in 2026 and be among the first facilities to develop and manufacture advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries at scale throughout Europe. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attended the ceremony and stressed that "It is a project that will undoubtedly help to boost the region, not only helping to create hundreds of jobs in its initial phase but also because it positions Extremadura." AESC CEO for the United States and Europe, Knudt Flor, emphasized the gigafactory's long-term vision and its commitment to grow the electrification supply chain while providing state-of-the-art batteries. He highlighted the potential of the facility to promote technological and economic development locally, as well as to promote collaboration between different actors in the field of sustainable mobility and renewable energy. This gigafactory will become the first carbon-neutral gigafactory in Spain as a part of the Net Zero Industrial Park. AESC’s Global Board Appoints Knudt Flor as CEO for United States and Europe and Global Head of Quality We are excited to announce that Mr. Knudt Flor has joined AESC as our US/Europe CEO and Global Quality Head. He began on July 2nd, 2024. As part of our North American expansion plans, AESC has signed a long-term supply agreement with leading circular materials technology company Umicore. The deal will provide us with critical materials for manufacturing #EV batteries in our U.S. manufacturing facilities. In line with the “local for local” principle, this agreement will enhance and diversify our global supply chain network with additional regional supply resources and support our ability to meet the evolving needs of our contracted customers, including global OEMs such as BMW Group and many others. Today, AESC placed the last piece of structural steel on our state-of-the-art 30 GWh gigafactory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Joined by Governor Andy Beshear and other local leaders, this “Topping Out” ceremony marks a significant milestone in AESC’s progress toward completing our state-of-the-art gigafactory. AESC Managing Director for the U.S. Jeff Deaton said, “we are confident that this gigafactory will not only strengthen local economies by creating thousands of new competitive clean energy jobs but also advance Kentucky’s position at the forefront of the fast-growing and global EV industry.” With an expected opening of early 2025, the facility will contribute to production of AESC’s next generation of battery solutions, and help us meet the increasing demand for more energy-efficient electric vehicles across the globe. It will create an estimated 2,000 skilled jobs for the community, and is expected to power up to 300,000 vehicles annually by 2027.
