Hello everyone 😃 this is Mori, and I am a co-pilot for the Boeing 777 aircraft. Today, I would like to introduce the environmental measures that ANA pilots are working on. The Boeing 777 I fly is a large aircraft that consumes a lot of fuel. For example, on a flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, roughly 10 tons of fuel by weight is consumed, or approximately 12,600 liters by volume, equivalent to 63 drums of 200 liters each. Even with such a high fuel consumption, there are pilot-specific efforts to reduce fuel consumption as much as possible. One such effort is to turn off 1 engine right after landing. This will be done depending on not only the road surface conditions, but also the aircraft weight, the slope of the aircraft parking area, and the punctuality of the flight. Naturally, turning off 1 engine will cause the acceleration to lessen, and it even becomes difficult to run the aircraft in a straight line. Of course, this method is not implemented during snowfall or other similar weather conditions. We also try to arrange the timing of retracting the flaps (the movable parts on the front and back of the wings) by retracting them quicker after takeoff. This reduces air resistance and improves fuel efficiency, but because it increases the low-altitude flight time, this method is avoided at airports with noise restrictions. While this may not make a noticeable difference in fuel consumption for a single flight, if implemented on many flights, it can significantly reduce CO2 emissions. New operations like these come with challenges and difficulties, but I find it interesting to exchange ideas with fellow pilots in order to pursue better methods. I mainly handle reception duties at the ANA Lounge on the domestic side, boarding procedures at the dedicated counter for Diamond Service members, and aircraft door closing operations 🌟 In my daily duties, I strive to offer guidance and service tailored to each customer’s needs. Interacting with the many visitors at Haneda Airport and being exposed to their diverse perspectives and values is a continuous and valuable learning experience for me.
