Together with bitBiome, Inc. we are excited to announce the launch of a joint Transaminase Enzyme Screening Kit! This curated collection of forty-eight highly diverse transaminase enzymes are ready for in-house screening and evaluation. “By mining bitBiome’s massive database and by identifying and synthesizing the enzymes that would be most useful in creating active pharmaceutical ingredients, we can provide our and bitBiome’s customers with a new and robust approach to enzyme engineering and development specific to biocatalysis,” said Emily Leproust, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Twist Bioscience. “This screening kit builds on our work in DNA synthesis where our customers provide us with sequences and we quickly deliver products. 📣 bitBiome is so excited to officially announce our partnership with Twist Bioscience and our first commercially available product! Together we will provide the most diverse and unique sequences and enzymes necessary for pharmaceutical API synthesis. Our first enzyme kit will be a collection of 48 novel transaminases from our proprietary database, the largest and most diverse genomic database built using our single cell sequencing platform. A week ago, we concluded the #PlasticsSymposium2024! We heard cutting-edge research at the forefront of plastics design, plastics degradations, and re/up-cycling of plastics wastes from bottles and textiles to healthcare using #physical #chemical #biological approaches with insights from #MaterialsScience aided by #AI and #Genomics and realized by #ProcessEngineering! We also witnessed the power of #enzymes as part of future solutions! Moderating a panel of researcher A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research, inventors from leading companies CARBIOS and Samsara Eco and investor Temasek, we emphasized the need for close partnerships between industry, academia and government in pushing the frontiers on how we deal with plastics wastes - there are more to be done! We were so honored to welcome our advisor John Nicols for our inaugural happy hour, as he presented his experience leading a successful synthetic biology company.   Our “Sips and Synbio” series will continue to bring in key synbio players in business and R&D so we can learn more about how to run successful and impactful companies.

Last Friday, it was an insightful time with Soichiro Tsuda from bitBiome, Inc. and Keith Tan from Cellenion share on their technologies for single-cell isolation and the applications. The microbial world is truly vast and holds many mysteries, waiting for us to uncover - to date, it's estimated only 0.001% of microbes are understood, and not even fully! For bitBiome, besides the rich soil microbiome, they've even gone to extreme habitats such as hot springs to sample microbes, many of which are unknown. The genetic information from these microbes await to be harnessed for applications - such as novel enzymes which can be further engineered by bitBiome's proprietary platform. For Cellenion, seeing is believing. Image-based single-cell isolation allows their users to isolate cells for pure cultures, which is key for diagnostics and studying the complex microbial communities from different environments. 📣 bitBiome wants to welcome Dr. Yasuhiro Mihara who has joined as Principal Scientist. Dr. Mihara has been involved in the development of various processes for producing valuable substances using enzymes and microbes. His work in industrial enzymatic synthesis of inosinic acid at Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was particularly noted for its development of practical biocatalysts using molecular evolution and protein engineering, earning him technical awards from the Chemical Society of Japan and the Japanese Society for Agricultural Chemistry.
