We celebrate this International Women in Engineering Day with the inspiring women who help us #engineer a better world, like Dr. Petra Krahwinkler, Senior Expert for Artificial Intelligence at our group company Primetals Technologies. Dr. Petra focuses on using #automation to optimize the production of ironmaking plants, from sinter plants to blast furnaces and smelters. Her work helps to reduce the use of fuels and #carbonemissions in plants while stabilizing and improving product quality. She continues to be inspired and driven by the need for carbon reduction in the industry. While new technologies will enable ironmaking plants to run on #hydrogen to reduce emissions, this transition to cleaner fuels will take time. Her work with automation is an opportunity to #decarbonize the production processes of older plants while the adoption of cleaner fuels catches up. Dr. Petra is a firm believer in #AI’s potential – her team uses AI as a tool in process automation. Combining first principles models with data analytics and machine learning, she integrates these hybrid models to stabilize and optimize production. What are Dr. Petra’s thoughts on her career as an engineer? “I chose engineering because it is fascinating and offers a lot of challenges. While I’ve been fortunate to receive a vast amount of support throughout my career, I still wait for the day when a woman in engineering is nothing to wonder about anymore. So, I say – if you are thinking about engineering, just go for it! It is an exciting field that offers safe and rewarding workplaces.” Thank you to Dr. Petra and all the women in engineering who are helping to #MoveTheWorldForward! #MHIGroup #MissionNetZero #INWED2024 #EnhancedByEngineering
