🍊🌎 Have you heard about greenhouse mandarins? 🍊🌎 These are mandarins grown in plastic greenhouses with super soft skin that’s easy to peel by hand! In August, we sold #RegionalCCU® greenhouse mandarins in Gamagori and Toyohashi in Aichi Prefecture. These mandarins were part of a special project where CO₂ from a local factory was collected and used to grow these mandarins. Niterra is proud to be part of the “Regional CCU® Project,” which started in February 2024. This initiative aims to create a local carbon cycle by using CO₂ from Gamagori City for local production. The five days of sales provided a valuable opportunity to let many people know about the project and to hear directly from them! 🚀 On July 11th, Venture Lab Silicon Valley hosted the Japan Society of Northern California event, "A New Era in the Space Ecosystem – Future Collaboration between the US and Japan for a Post-ISS World," attracting around 100 attendees. As NASA plans to retire the ISS by 2030, a new space station operated by private companies will take its place, incorporating Japanese experimental equipment and modules. The event featured Japanese and US space tech startups discussing the post-ISS world and the opportunities and challenges of US-Japan collaboration. At the event, GM of Investment Tom Kluz presented on Niterra, and VP Craig Tibbetts introduced Niterra's innovative small radiation device (SRD). The material used in the SRD changes is emissivity based on temperature, a very useful property for thermal control on spacecraft exposed to temperature extremes in the vacuum of space. Niterra has developed a cost effective production process for the material, promising performance at one-fifth the weight and cost of conventional thermal control devices. Why It Matters: This collaboration enhances international space partnerships, driving innovation and new opportunities in space-related industries. Technologies like the SRD offer more efficient and cost-effective solutions, opening up new possibilities for scientific discovery and commercial ventures. Bora Savas recently joined our team as a Head of Venture Lab Tokyo. We interviewed him. -Bora, what prompted your decision to join Venture Lab Tokyo? I originally became interested in Venture Lab Tokyo after meeting the head of the new business organization, right around the time I was trying to launch a Startup Studio in Tokyo. I was especially motivated to join Niterra because I strongly resonated with their vision and initiatives. Niterra aims to drive innovation across diverse industries with the 2040 vision, "Beyond ceramics, eXceeding imagination." I felt that joining Niterra would give me the opportunity to contribute to the development of new technologies and business initiatives, and to make a meaningful impact on the world. - Tell us about your current role. I lead venture-building activities to create innovative solutions in mobility, energy, healthcare, and sustainability. By collaborating closely with teams in Japan, the U.S., and Germany, we are advancing technologies in these fields. My role involves ensuring each project progresses smoothly by building teams and optimizing resources, aiming to identify social issues and develop new businesses to address them. Additionally, we work to clarify the vision for each project and motivate everyone to work toward a common goal. -What are your goals at Venture Lab Tokyo? My goals are to make a significant impact on society through new technologies and business models. Recently, our Venture Lab UX design team attended the 2024 Figma Config Conference, a premier event for designers worldwide, focusing on cutting-edge design tools, techniques and trends. Britney, our UX designer shared her experience: "Attending the Config conference was an incredible experience for me. As my first design conference, it provided an invaluable opportunity to network with fellow designers and gain insights from expert speakers. I learned about the latest features in Figma and improved my skills in communicating design decisions to stakeholders. One of the most exciting things I discovered at this event was the emerging trend of collaborative design tools becoming even more integrated and user-friendly. This change will make it much simpler for designers to work together, enhancing productivity and creativity. Welcome to Niterra Ventures Company Japan✨ We recently held an exchange meeting between our Company President, Dirk S., and our new employees. During the meeting, the new employees each gave a 5-minute presentation in English to Dirk, sharing their past studies, reasons for joining the company, and their dreams for the next five years in both their professional and personal lives. After their presentations, there was a round-table discussion. Our new employees expressed various aspirations, such as: "I am interested in web design." "I want to improve my marketing skills." "I want to work globally." "I want to create a new business." Some employees even presented in German, Dirk's native language, showcasing their language skills. Dirk's goal is to "put the right people in the right places as much as possible so that each member can work passionately on what they want to do."
