    In 1989 I studied part time while tour-guiding. From 1990 I was a full time law student. The Japanese language department hired me to teach the first year Japanese-language class for two years so I taught the Japanese language program whilst studying my first and second-year law papers.

  • I studied for the UK Bar Exam remotely in Japan and sat the bar exam in Hong Kong.

  • ゼミ・クラブ・サークル:Tavelled to Nagano Prefecture in Japan to attend "New Zealand Fair" promotiion of New Zealand food and culture. I worked in the Restaurant. I also won two Language Competitions while studying Japanese and the travelled to Japan as first prize. These activities were instrumental in my finding a love for Japan, its language and culture.

    With two others we ran a fundraising effort at Tokyo Tower to raise funds for flooding in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle in New Zealand. We raised JPY 3 Million (NZD $36,500) sent to New Zealand via Red Cross.

    ◾️How are the finalists chosen?
    Asian Legal Business compiles all of the submission entries, and the ALB editorial and research teams extensively review each submission to ensure the criteria are met in order to advance to the shortlist of finalists. ALB stresses that this process is fair, impartial and not subject to external influences.

    ◾️ How are the winners chosen?
    Once the shortlist of finalists are announced, an independent judging panel reviews and selects their top three choices for the award categories they are assigned to. The scores for each award category are tabulated, and the individual/firm/team with the highest score will be announced as the winner.

    ◾️ Who are the judging panel for ALB Japan Law Awards?
    They are an independent judging panel of at least 25 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials. The judging panel are selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge, and are comprised from various sectors to correspond to the diverse list of award categories. A partial list of judges’ names are released prior to the awarding ceremony, and the remaining judges are revealed on the evening of the awards.
