‘No need to give the debate new twist’ – Ezekiel Mutua on President’s jet

The Music Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Friday, May 31, 2024, called out critics of the President’s private jet.

Through his official social media account, Ezekiel Mutua stated that the matter of the private jet was long settled in the most plausible authoritative, and convincing way by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

Urging critics not to give the debate a new twist, Mutua said that the end justifies the means through a proper cost and benefits analysis of the deals sealed from the trip.

“Francis Atwoli had settled the matter of the President’s jet in the most plausible authoritative and convincing way   There’s absolutely no need to give the debate a new twist. The end will justify the means through a proper cost/benefits analysis of the deals sealed from the trip. We should leave the experts to do this,” he said.

Francis Atwoli  defends Ruto

On May 26, 2024, Francis Atwoli came to the defence of Ruto’s travel expenses during his three-day US State tour.

Atwoli explained that it was embarrassing for Ruto to use Kenya Airways planes for his State tour to the US.

“Raisi mzima aende na Kenya Airways ulaya, Ata ukiongea watu wengine wakiskia watakucheka vibaya sana”hesaid.

Explaining a scenario where the head of state was using a public plane, the COTU Secretary General said that the President would be forced to travel long hours and also share the washroom.

“Travelling to America takes over 18 hours, sometimes even 20 hours, because of stopovers, Imagine the president waiting for someone to use the toilet on a plane, standing and waiting for that person to come out,” he explained.

Ruto’s private jet

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, during the 21st National Prayer Breakfast meeting, Ruto explained that his flight cost Ksh 10 million contrary to the Ksh200 million claims.

“I am a very responsible steward. There is no way I can spend Ksh200 million. Let me disclose here, that it cost the Republic of Kenya less than Ksh10 million, You know when I saw the debate in Kenya as to how I travelled to the US. There were all manners of figures, that ‘this plane is this size, it’s like this, google it. This must have cost Ksh200 million,” he said.
