🌟 #DualTraining in action! 💪🏾👏🏾   Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola led a Finnish delegation on a visit to Nairobi Technical Training Institute #NTTI and later AutoXpress Kenya where they interacted with talented Automotive Mechatronics trainees and graduates who are part of the #DualTraining programme.   Dual Training programme combines classroom instruction with hands-on, on-the-job training and mentorship. #Trainees spend 50 per cent of the time in an actual work environment while the other 50 per cent is delivered at a #TVET institution. The net effect is young Kenyans with the #practicalskills needed for today’s #labourmarket!   Ambassador Tapiola lauded the collaboration between TVET institutes and industry, noting, “Finland is extremely proud to contribute to changing the face of #TVET in Kenya in addressing the #skillsmismatch and to bring the real skills needed in the industry.”   This collaboration is part of the 'Promotion of Youth Employment and Vocational Training' Programme, financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is implemented by the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training #TVET with technical support from GIZ Kenya. So far, over 2,000 trainees are enrolled in the programme across 65 national #TVET institutions that are collaborating with over 1,000 companies.   We are excited to nurture a #SkilledWorkforceKE through a strong industry-TVET collaboration in Kenya!

Last week, we had the incredible honour of welcoming a delegation from the Finnish Government, led by Finnish Ambassador Mr Pirrka Tapiola, to our AutoXpress General Mathenge Branch. This visit forms part of the 'Promotion of Youth Employment and Vocational Training' Program, a joint initiative funded by Finland and Germany aimed at significantly advancing skills development in Kenya's automotive sector. Through this program, AutoXpress has proudly hired nine trainees from the inaugural cohort of the Automotive Mechatronics course supported by the Finnish government. In addition, we are mentoring several more trainees through an internship program, with an emphasis on gender diversity—a portion of our graduates and trainees are female. During their visit, the Finnish delegation had the opportunity to interact with our talented graduates, underscoring the positive trajectory of skills development initiatives in Kenya's automotive industry. Ambassador Tapiola praised the collaborative efforts between Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and businesses like ours, acknowledging Finland's role in transforming the TVET sector in Kenya. Our Chief Commercial Officer, Thomas Carver, shared valuable insights into the industry's challenges and the crucial role of partnerships with institutions like Nairobi Technical Training Institute (NTTI). By equipping our workforce with essential technical and soft skills, we can ensure the sustainability and growth of our industry while positively impacting the broader community.
