Digital Rights for PWDs/Disability Justice/Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities/#A11y
I recently participated in a two-day workshop hosted by the Kenya Network of Women and Girls with Disabilities. The event focused on enhancing the involvement of women and girls with disabilities in leadership roles and advocating for disability activism to be included in mainstream organizations. The good news is that KICTANet is already mainstreaming disability across all its programming. Key discussions revolved around understanding intersectionality, acknowledging personal privileges, and the complexities of ensuring equality for marginalized groups, especially those with disabilities. There were also powerful conversations about the importance of proper disability etiquette, recognizing the leadership of women with disabilities, and the challenges related to accessibility and funding. Hearing personal stories and experiences was both inspiring and eye-opening. It highlighted the need for safe spaces, targeted approaches to address specific needs, and stronger collaboration between disability rights, women’s rights, and feminist movements. #DisabilityRights #Intersectionality #Feminist #Disability

"Surveillance Laws and Technologies Used in Countering Terrorism and Their Potential Impact on Civic Space" paper is part of a three-part research study by a panel convened by ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa with the support of The Fund for Global Human Rights. The research aims to critically examine the effects of counter-terrorism (CT) and the prevention of violent extremism (PVE) measures on civic space in Kenya.
