Technology for life in the world's fastest growing cities
About us
KOKO Networks is a venture-backed technology company operating in East Africa and India. We build and deploy dense networks of cloud-connected "KOKOpoints" inside local corner stores, which serve as consumer access points for goods and services delivered in partnership with major suppliers. Our first consumer solution is a liquid ethanol cooking fuel, which delivers significant cost savings and quality of life improvements in the multi-billion dollar market for urban cooking fuel. This fuels solution is delivered through a Kenyan operating partnership with Vivo Energy, the company which owns and operates Shell-branded fuels distribution infrastructure across Africa.

We're very proud to be working with mission-aligned investors and partners like Microsoft. Thank you Melanie Nakagawa and all of the fantastic team at the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund for the continued support in delivering climate justice, reduced emissions and improved lives through an energy transition away from deforestation fuels.
Last fall, I had the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, Kenya where world leaders discussed the role of sustainability investment, technology, and innovation in Africa. I left with optimism and a sense of possibility about the role a company like Microsoft can play in advancing this important work, including the role AI can play as an accelerant for these solutions. Today, we are turning these possibilities into reality in several ways including expanding the AI for Good Lab in the region and investing in innovative solutions through our Climate Innovation Fund. Read more about our commitment to innovation on the African continent, and solutions we’re spurring to address the climate crisis in my latest blog: https://lnkd.in/gnP_PryH

🚀 KOKO was featured in The Economist following a visit to our facilities, an operations tour and meetings with our customers [link in first comment below]. We're using carbon credits in a novel way to subsidise the cost of fuel and undercut charcoal. 🌍 Mitigating demand for charcoal is critical to climate progress -- millions of hectares of tropical forest are destroyed each year. And globally, cooking on open fires with polluting fuels emits roughly 1 billion tonnes of CO2e -- similar to global aviation. The KOKO team is in Dubai for #cop28 . Reach out to Walid Jalkh Hanaan Marwah or anyone else in our team to meet and learn more about #KOKO #africa #climatechange #carbonmarkets #energytransition
