🌿 At the Mugumo Conservation Agriculture Demo Plot, we’re turning the 🐝 buzz into action! Our beehive fence, supported by Mount Kenya Trust, is successfully protecting crops from elephants while promoting sustainable farming. Out of 25 hives installed, 19 are thriving, helping deter elephant incursions and allowing farmers to harvest crops like maize, beans, and cabbages. The bees are not only keeping the elephants at bay but are also contributing to the local economy through honey production. Plus, the absence of livestock grazing near the hives has led to the natural regeneration of riparian vegetation, helping restore the ecosystem. This project is a powerful example of how conservation efforts can support both wildlife and communities. Rhino Ark, in collaboration with our dedicated partners including the Kenya Pipeline Company Limited, Mount Kenya Trust, Upper Tana Natural Resource Management, and Community Forest Associations, has successfully completed a 62-kilometer fence and rehabilitated an additional 28 kilometers of fencing in the Mt. Kenya ecosystem. This effort plays a vital role in safeguarding biodiversity, reducing human-wildlife conflict, and promoting sustainable livelihoods for local communities. The map illustrates the extent of our efforts, showcasing the areas where the fence has been newly constructed and those that have undergone crucial rehabilitation. 📢 The Mount Kenya Elephant Corridor Team works tirelessly to maintain the critical 14km-long Elephant Corridor and patrol nearby areas, actively reducing biodiversity threats. Covering 480 hectares and including a 27km fence line, the corridor reconnects mountain elephant populations with those in Samburu and Laikipia. Since the first elephant, Tony, passed through on January 1, 2011, our rangers have played a crucial role in fostering human-wildlife coexistence and protecting the rich biodiversity of Mount Kenya's ecosystems. By supporting this cause, you directly contribute to the incredible efforts of our rangers in ensuring the safe passage of elephants and other keystone species through this vital corridor and across the Mount Kenya landscape. The Community Health Services Programme (CHSP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Tharaka Nithi County, completed a 3-day medical outreach offering family planning, screening, and basic treatment services. A huge thank you to the Munga Daughter and Sons medical team, whose support allowed us to reach even more people today. In addition, we successfully trained 160 Community Health Promoters in Meru County through the THET partnership. These CHPs are now equipped to provide Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services to adolescents and create demand for Adolescent and Youth Sexual & Reproductive Health (AYSRH) services at level 2 facilities.
