The Nyali Bazaar Project On the 19th september 2022, we undertook the kick off session that saw us initiate and bring to life this lovely project. This effectively shot us into a sea of uncertainties that has left us with lots of lessons that will remain largely valuable in the years to come. Whilst our strengths and weaknesses were tested in a process that was nothing short of formidable, the team was able to effectively undertake the processes of stakeholder and change management to a level of acclamation. As the facility opens its doors today to public access, I would want to congratulate the entire team that invested fully in seeing this through to this level. About a week ago, I was honored to receive the award for best Male referee at the Football Kenya Federation 2024 Gala. While this achievement marks a major milestone in my refereeing career, it opened my eyes to the similarities between sports and projects. A referee on a field of play moves back and forth to ensure order is maintained. His role is to facilitate the implementation of the game. This is the role similarly played by a project manager on a project. He ensures all stakeholders undertake their responsibilities within the confines of the project charter. As I held onto the award, I couldn’t help but think about the impact football has had on my engineering and Project Management journey. It has taught me the value of discipline, consistency, integrity, people management, needs assessment, and patience.
