The upcoming Summit of the Future is a crucial moment to recognize #OurCommonFuture and set a path for a sustainable planet. From 22-23 September, the United Nations will strive to mend eroded trust and demonstrate that international cooperation can effectively achieve agreed goals and tackle the growing #ClimateCrisis: https://lnkd.in/dQzxCqqA

The climate crisis cannot be solved by one country alone. Unless greenhouse gas emissions fall dramatically, warming could pass 2.9°C this century, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences for all life on this planet. #ClimateAction is urgently needed. It’s time for countries to step up their efforts to curb the looming climate emergency. https://lnkd.in/dARjBBPc

In many countries, economic growth has long been accompanied by an increase in greenhouse gas emissions. Uruguay has managed to decouple emissions from growth, largely due to its use of energy from non-traditional sources, including wind, solar, and biomass, in addition to traditional hydropower. With the support of UNEP, the country has also been mapping future marine protected areas, developing a national waste management strategy, and supporting communities as they prepare for extreme weather and other consequences of climate change. As the world bakes under record heat, the next round of climate pledges, due in 2025, is crucial for our planet. These plans will determine if we can avoid extreme weather and meet the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal. Our video explains more: https://lnkd.in/eGdbCUqR

Record temperatures and the unprecedented impacts of the #ClimateCrisis continue to affect billions of people across the planet. Meanwhile, current national climate pledges (NDCs) put the world on track for a global temperature rise of 2.5-2.9°C. The upcoming NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora urges countries to submit economy-wide emission reduction targets that align with limiting global warming to 1.5°C and an increase in resilience to climate impacts: https://lnkd.in/d97_qWUH

This year, 1 August is #EarthOvershootDay. Unfortunately, that means humanity’s demand for ecological resources in a given year has exceeded what Earth can regenerate. Since the early 1970s, humanity has been in an ecological deficit, according to a report based on United Nations data. The first global “Earth Overshoot Day” fell on 25 December 1971. This date is brought forward little by little every year, significantly impacting reserves for future generations and underscoring our responsibility to act. Discover why there is still time to ditch this trend and why immediate action is crucial: https://lnkd.in/dGEbnM-C
