Overview

Yaelokre is a musical storytelling and art project by Keath Ósk based on four fictional young minstrels who wear masks, Perrine, Cole, Clémentine and Kingsley, known together as "The Lark," who sing about fables and events from the land of Meadowlark. The project, which combines original music, real-life musical performances and illustrations to tell its stories, was started by Ósk in late 2023 and gained a significant fandom throughout 2024 across social media, resulting in numerous pieces of fan art and fan works on sites like TikTok, Tumblr, X / Twitter and Reddit. In July 2024, Yaelokre spoke out against the fandom's invention of the "cricket system," an imaginary currency system inspired by TikTok's dabloons trend, for being "unwelcoming." That month, Yaelokre also expressed disappointment over the fast pace at which the project grew, as they had yet to release any "significant" content regarding the lore of the project.

July 2024 Statement On Project Growth

On July 14th, 2024, Yaelokre posted a statement on X[7] about the growth of the project, writing, "The populace being quick to assume is unpreventable, though I wish Meadowlark did not gain so much popularity in such a short time. I have yet to release anything significant, let alone a proper introduction, and already we are doomed by false rumor. It is suffocating," garnering over 4,000 likes in three days (shown below).

The Cricket System

In July 2024, TikTokers began a trend known as the "cricket system" surrounding Yaelokre. The trend, which is inspired by TikTok's "dabloons" trend, is essentially an imaginary currency system, where fans are awarded "crickets" for watching videos (example cricket system video shown below).

On July 15th, Yaelokre made a post on X[11] denouncing the cricket system, writing that they are unhappy with the system and expressing their worries about it being "unwelcoming" for Wonderfolk, the name given to the fandom. Yaelokre writes, "We are not a cult, and none of you have the right to say nor inform others how to enjoy a piece media, especially one built upon childlike wonder." They continue, calling the cricket system "unwelcoming as it does render some saying what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'." The post gained over 3,400 likes in two days (shown below).

Yaelokre @yaelokre - Jul 15 Many things shouldn't have been able to reach me, though since we are sadly past that, i felt the need to make this post coming from a previously smaller creator. I am unhappy with the made up system the people have built surrounding the Wonderfolk, 58 t 452 Yaelokre 3.4K ill 64K @yaelokre - Jul 15 Ive granted you the name "Wonderfolk" because my story lives off of imagination, wonderment. We wield wonder, hence the title. We are not a cult, and none of you have the right to say nor inform others how to enjoy a piece media, especially one built upon childlike wonder 8 138 2.3K ili 39K ↑ Yaelokre k @yaelokre ... I am scared of seeming ungrateful, but again i am just one of the tiny people with a big dream. A lot of this are out of my hands now, but even the invented "cricket system" seem unwelcoming as it does render some saying what is 'right' and what is 'wrong' Im sorry for whining 10:43 AM - Jul 15, 2024 40.3K Views
