About

Reno 911! is an American comedic sitcom created by Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver for Comedy Central. The mockumentary follows an ensemble supporting cast of comic actors playing the police officers in a style similar to that of The Office and Parks And Recreation. The show aired from 2003 to 2009 for six seasons, with two more seasons airing as a revival of the show in 2020 and 2022.

History

Reno 911! pilot and initial idea was created by Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver in a short period of five days somewhere in 2000, as the trio revealed in an interview in May 2008 for the Bullseye with Jesse Thorn[1] podcast. The trio tried to sell the project to Fox, which was rejected, and eventually sold to Comedy Central[2], premiering on October 20th, 2003. The series originally ran for six seasons with two additional seasons running in 2020 and 2022, with a total of 124 episodes and two movies. A trailer[3] for the seventh season was uploaded on April 29th, 2020, amassing over 207,000 views and 3,800 likes in three years.

The show has an overall 86% rate on Rotten Tomatoes[4], with actress Niecy Nash winning the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the Gracie Awards in 2010.
