🌐 Full collateralization on the DeVol Platform Financial intermediation introduces counterparty risk. Time and again, TradFi has grappled with the issue of counterparty risk that isn’t properly measured in real-time.  History of at least the past two hundred years is replete with instances where the failure of a single institution can destabilize the entire market through collateral drawdowns, default cascades, and bank run dynamics. In such instances, market liquidity is typically preserved through institutional solutions like emergency lending windows and the expansion of central bank balance sheets. 🕵️♂️ Trust, but Verify: A Fundamental Principle in DeFi Blockchain technology has the potential to minimize counterparty risk. Yet the recent failures of large centralized finance (CeFi) institutions in crypto exposed the significant counterparty risk present in the blockchain ecosystem. The key takeaway from the Crypto Winter events of 2022 is that full collateralization is essential to the success and future of DeFi. The blockchain ethos of “don’t trust, verify” should be applied to all DeFi protocols. 🤝 DeVol's Approach to Options Trading: Clear and Concise Options on DeVol are “crypto-settled” in base currency (initially, stablecoin), meaning there is no physical delivery of the underlier and traders settle the profit & loss based on the observed price of the underlier relative to this base currency. And, they are fully collateralized by funds locked up in smart contracts on the Solana blockchain.
