Solanum tuberosum[1] est species plantarum florentium familiae Solanacearum. Planta tuber amylosum producit, papas seu patata appellatum, inter victualia ordinandum.

Quod tuber "donum omnium utilissimum" fuisse "a Novo mundo ad Vetus oblatum" dixit abbas Rozier saeculo XVIII exeunte: "Modus patatarum accommodandarum optimus hic est: tuberibus iam coctis, superficie paulo tostis, immittitur butyrum recens, sal, herbas aromaticas concisas".[2]
