🔈Greater Irbid 🇯🇴is Making Significant Strides Toward a Cleaner and Greener Environment! On July 2️⃣2️⃣, the first campaign, “Yalla Nifriz,” in Al Rabieh, Irbid, was launched with the amazing support of Greater Irbid Municipality 🏢and local volunteers raising awareness about solid waste management, aiming to: • Enhance environmental protection & mitigate climate change • Improve the quality of life with sustainable public facilities Did you know that 50% of Irbid’s waste is recyclable? ♻️ "Yalla Nifriz" is spotlighting the incredible role women play in this change. Over the next few weeks, dedicated volunteers will visit 1,000 homes to teach proper waste-sorting techniques. All recyclable materials will be sent to the sorting facility at Emaar Irbid Park. #Bishmizzine, a leading village in sustainable development, has once more shown success in implementing a green project. Through the funding of the #EuropeanUnion and the implementation of the UNDP Lebanon CEDRO-5 project and with the support of Clima-Med - Acting for Climate in South Mediterranean, the municipality has installed a solar panel system that ensures now 24MWh of electricity per year to the facility. This project serves the environment by saving 16 tCO2-eq of GHG emissions to be released into the atmosphere. #Hasbaya is leading the way in sustainability ⚡️by implementing solar energy solutions and reducing its carbon footprint. As one of Lebanon's 🇱🇧historic villages, the municipality of Hasbaya has successfully provided its residents with continuous electricity and contributed to climate objectives. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the CEDRO V-UNDP project, in partnership with the 🇪🇺EU-funded #Clima_Med project and based on the 🏢 municipality’s Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP). Mr Labib Abi Hamra, Mayor of Hasbaya Municipality stated, "We successfully secured🏦 funding for solar power installations at the municipal building and Hasbaya Public Secondary School, totalling 17 KWp in capacity and reducing emissions by approximately 12 tCO2-eq per year." In Jordan🇯🇴, "#AlZarqa faces severe environmental challenges such as air pollution, river pollution, water scarcity, and droughts," says Ayman Al Omari, the municipality's Director of the Environmental Department. As a desert region with arid conditions, minimal rainfall, and the highly polluted Al Zarqa River, the urgent need for sustainable solutions is paramount. ✅Al Zarqa has successfully finalised its ambitious Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (#SEACAP). The comprehensive plan sets a high bar, committing to a significant 2️⃣0️⃣% reduction in emissions by 2030 and surpassing the unconditional commitment of Jordan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), which is 5️⃣%. The priority projects include: - Green Building Code and standards in new municipal buildings - Transport and sustainable mobility measures - Solid waste management - Forestry and city greening - Multi-purpose water harvesting systems 🏢The municipality's main goal is to reduce air pollution while implementing mitigation actions and measures to reduce CO2 emissions and cope with the impacts of climate change on the area. 🤝Mr. Al Omari praised the collaboration of the municipality technical committee with the #ClimaMed team for their exceptional work in developing the SEACAP with high-quality craftsmanship.
