Mindful Approaches to AI: An Executive Learning Series for Federal Leaders Making the Invisible Visible--Presented by Tristan Harris, Co-Founder of the Center for Humane Technology This talk examines how perverse incentives fuel dangerous races with AI, and how we can chart a way out. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming an integral part of our everyday lives. As this technology becomes more widespread in the federal space, government leaders must be willing to ask, “What are we rushing toward? How will decisions around using AI today influence us tomorrow?” This learning series will showcase the latest AI research while exploring how federal leaders can develop their own mindful approach to AI in the workplace and beyond. Each month, you’ll engage with different experts in AI and mindfulness, learning new information and perspectives to better recognize the link between the impacts of AI use today and tomorrow’s society. You’ll be encouraged to develop your own set of guiding principles surrounding the use of AI to make mindful, informed, conscious choices.
How You Will Benefit
In this monthly series, you’ll be challenged to explore AI’s impact on our society now and in the future. Through different lectures with renowned AI experts and mindfulness practioners practitioners, you will:
Be informed of the most up to date AI research and technological advances. Gain insight into how using AI may impact the workplace and modern society. Develop a mindful strategy with guiding principles to help make informed, conscious choices when using AI. Recognize and engage your own personal responsibility when using AI. Be better able to understand the impact of your decisions on the future.

This series will use Zoom for Government Each session will be two hours per month and features different topics and speakers Tristan Harris Bio: Tristan Harris is Co-Founder of the Center for Humane Technology (CHT), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to align technology with humanity’s best interests. He regularly briefs heads of state, technology CEOs, and US Congress members, in addition to mobilizing millions of people around the world through mainstream media. Tristan has explored the influences that hijack human attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs, from his childhood as a magician to his coursework in Stanford’s Persuasive Technology Lab to his leadership as a Design Ethicist at Google. Today, he studies how major technology platforms wield dangerous power over our ability to make sense of the world and leads the call for systemic change. In 2020, Tristan was featured in the two-time Emmy-winning Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma. The film unveiled how social media is dangerously reprogramming our brains and human civilization. It reached over 100 million people in 190 countries across 30 languages. As a co-host of the top-rated technology podcast, Your Undivided Attention, he explores the drivers behind social media’s race for attention, its destabilization of society, and potential solutions.
