On 24th August 2024, a Qantas Boeing 787 suffered a tire blowout incident upon landing in Perth, resulting in significant damage to the undercarriage section. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with registration VH-ZNC, was operating flight QF6 from Rome, Italy. Upon landing on runway 24 at Perth Airport, the aircraft experienced a blowout of several tires, leading to severe damage to the undercarriage. Dreams take flight with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Air New Zealand For this weekend’s event, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner took off at 1.30pm and made its way down the centre of the South Island, flying over Queenstown and heading south before turning up the East Coast and flying over Dunedin, then returning to Christchurch. The plane soared at an altitude that offered the Very Important Passengers on NZ8477 (NZVIPS) a stunning view of the South Island scenery. Qantas has mistakenly sold hundreds of first class tickets for almost 85% lower than the normal fare. About 300 customers were able to snap up the error fares when it was published and displayed for almost eight hours on August 22, 2024. A report by The Guardian said that the flights were listed at less than AUD 5,000 ($3,388) return, about AUD 15,000 ($10,100) cheaper than usual. The National Agency for the Safety of Flight (Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo, ANSV) has released its preliminary report about an incident involving a LATAM Airlines Boeing 777-300ER in Milan, Italy. On July 9, the aircraft scraped the runway for several seconds before finally taking off from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). Subsequently, it returned to the same airport before finally being ferried back to Brazil several days after the incident. EVA Air will be the first Asian carrier to apply the low-drag AeroShark surface film on its fleet of Boeing 777 freighters. The Taiwanese carrier will work with Aeroshark developers Lufthansa Technik (LHT) and chemical firm BASF for the application of the film, with the first aircraft expected to enter service in September. Malaysia Airlines will cut its operating schedules through the end of the year, amid a double whammy of aircraft reliability issues and delivery delays. Airline parent Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) says on 24 August says it will “execute corrective measures where needed” as it slashes it network. The group, which also comprises regional unit Firefly and religious pilgrimage operator Amal, did not disclose the extent of schedule cuts. Air Vanuatu has put its ATR 72-600 back into service for limited domestic flights. YJ-AV73 is operating charter services daily between Port Vila and Santo, and between Port Vila and Tanna, complementing scheduled charter services that restarted earlier this month using the Vanuatuan flag carrier’s DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft. If one factor is leading the trend of commercial flights in 2024, it’s business class travel. Within its ‘2024 Global Business Travel Forecast’ report, corporate travel management platform Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) found that airline passengers in the Asia-Pacific are paying more than usual for business class seats, given the increase in demand for leisure travel after years of restricted mobility due to the pandemic. In a June 2023 report in-flight entertainment developer Panasonic Avionics suggested that airline passengers are ready to spend more on luxurious travel for better amenities and more space. Boeing 737 MAX Whistleblower Releases Documents Of Electrical Faults On Ethiopian Airlines Plane Involved In Deadly Crash A new set of documents released by the Foundation for Aviation Safety (an advocacy group formed by former Boeing employee-turned-whistleblower Ed Pierson) suggests that an electrical malfunction could have caused the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash. The documents released on Thursday outlined a "slew of electrical issues" that were discovered as Boeing assembled the Ethiopian Airlines jet that crashed in 2019. The documents outline confusion and chaos at Boeing's Renton factory, where the two 737 MAX aircraft were built and later crashed. The twin crashes occurred in 2018 and 2019 and claimed the lives of some 346 people. In May 2024, the FAA stated there's a "long road" ahead to restore Boeing's safety culture.
