Glad to have a good Asian restaurant in North Natomas. I go there for lunch sometimes. I love their bento boxes. No nonsense and not over priced. Tempura is always hot, sashimi is fresh and the salad is refreshing. Overall it is a good meal.

People come here for omakase. Great find near Sac International Airport.
They normally only serve omakase on Weekend.
However if you feel like not spending $125 for the omakase, the mystery box $60 is a great yummy alternative.
After 6:30p this place gets crowded. Very friendly staff. Fish is fresh and good portion.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrew P.Cupertino, CA330152Sep 2, 2024
The handrolls have a lot of fish to justify the price tag. In terms of rolls, the sushi was fantastic mix of fish, rice, and differing sauces. While many are strictly sashimi or nigiri lovers, you really can't go wrong with the rolls. The chirashi bowl is standard.
Taste: Above Average
The only downside is the expensive price tag per item.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrea R.Folsom, CA19713112Sep 1, 2024
I ordered DoorDash from here and was so impressed! First of all, the to go packaging was done really well like they took a lot of care in preparing the food. It's really nice to see that in Natomas.
I ordered the two item bento box with salmon and Tonkatsu, a California roll, and the Lion King and everything was delicious. The sushi rice was the first thing I noticed. It was done properly and wasn't sugary sweet like a lot of sushi places in Sac, and the ratio of rice to filling was perfect.
Tonkatsu was crispy and juicy and wasn't drenched in sauce, the salmon teriyaki wasn't dry and the teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet either. The salad dressing was great too. It was creamy, tangy, and light. The bento also came with miso soup.
I will definitely be ordering here again and will come in to try the omakase!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 121179110Aug 31, 2024
I used to think that people who say, "Take my money and get in my belly" were the most annoying people on the face of the earth, but now, I am a believer of the saying.
First, LOOK at how PRETTY the rolls are. In today's modern society, rolls are increasingly accepted, but at this place, I'll embrace ALL rolls. They just are beautiful to look at. Even if the rolls get into my belly, it was WORTH it!
Secondly, the sushi is sold at a reasonable price for the quality that you get. If you're loaded with money, come and spend it here. If you're tight on money, come when you're not starving bc the temptation to buy these rolls is an obstacle course that only those with strong self-control can handle.
5 stars for service, ambiance, food quality, and prices!
I will, definitely, come get my rolls here. If I'm going to add on rolls to my body, this is the place to go!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 28, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
Decided to give Chef Frank another try since last time, I thought it was ok good. It was a disappointment this time and I don't think I will come back.
I order through DoorDash around 11:30am for lunch. I ordered the chirashi don, scallop, salmon, salmon toro, o-toro, trout onigiri and the super star roll .
The nigiri were good, especially the scallop. I like the rice ratio, it was on the lighter side which I like. The nigiri fish was fresh but none make me say it was perfect.
Chirashi - supposedly it should have 9 pieces and I got 15 pieces ... I should be happy right? NO.. all this pieces are like the ends. The hamachi and this white fish it was crunchy. The albacore sashimi was meh, I have to spit out a hamachi piece since it had sinew. The 4 pieces of octopus is just so hard to chew. The only good piece in this chirashi is the salmon and tuna. I have never experience this bad of a chirashi.
The super star roll was ok, supposedly it should have truffles.. and yes it did has a .5 cm dot on each piece. I didn't taste any truffle or mushroom sauce or whatsoever. It was bland but edible.
It regret going to chef frank, seriously. I didn't expect that I was given the leftovers end of whatever fish they had. A high quality restaurant should never make this mistakes. This place is overrated for so many 5 stars review.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 3, 2023Previous reviewSo excited to visit this place! The place is very nice , clean and love the tables setting!
We were greeted and seated right away. Offered a free side dish of pickle cucumbers. It was very refreshing. The restaurant is almost full of customer , about 70% full.
We ordered a mixed tempura, bento box with tonkotsu and teriyaki chicken, and a mystery box.
The mixed tempura $12, was pretty good, came with 5 pieces of tempuras. It was light and crispy. I thought it was a little pricier for 5 pieces.
Bento box $20, it was yummy. It came with 2 side, rice and salad. They almost forgot the miso soup but we asked for it. Their tonkatsu was pretty crunchy and flavorful, not dry.
Mystery box, $56. It had 9 type, 18 pieces in the box. The fishes were pretty fresh. However the salmon was a little lean. The albacore was the worst, it was fishy. Overall, great experience and glad now we have some good sushi/sashimi place in NATOMAS.
I wish the server knew a little more about their dishes or be able to explain on the mystery box for their customer. - Aug 18, 20241 check-in
My family and I frequently visit this sushi spot, as it's one of the best in the Natomas area. The space feels very clean and has a modern Japandi style. The selection of sushi rolls and nigiri consistently exceeds our expectations. The Hokkaido roll and Dragon roll are personal favorites--they're incredibly savory, with the Hokkaido roll offering an especially rich umami flavor.
We celebrated my father-in-law's birthday here and decided to try the 15-course omakase for the first time. It was an exceptional experience! The staff were incredibly hospitable, providing detailed descriptions of each dish as it was served, and they were more than happy to answer any questions we had.
The 15-course omakase included:
* Starter: Scallop Martini
* Appetizer: Uni Crab Meat Monaka
* Sashimi: Medai (Sea Bream)
* Chawanmushi: Truffle Mushroom Steamed Egg
* Nigiri: 10 Pieces of Premium Nigiri
* Dessert: Red Bean Panna Cotta
The food and service were outstanding, and my family left completely satisfied. Even our toddler, who had a bento box, thoroughly enjoyed his meal and finished everything. To top it off, the restaurant went above and beyond by giving him complimentary ice cream, which made his day. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12868491Aug 28, 2024
I recently visited Chef Frank's in Natomas with my girlfriends, and we had a fantastic experience! The restaurant is situated in a convenient plaza with plenty of other shops, making it a great spot to grab dinner. The service was excellent--our server was attentive, and the food arrived quickly. The restaurant itself was spotless and had a comfortable atmosphere. We started with some hot miso soup and lemon drop sake bombs, which were a hit--perfectly balanced and not too bitter. The spicy garlic edamame had just the right amount of heat, and both the Lion King roll (extra seared) and the Land Park Roll were creamy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area!

Same-day reservations for two at 5:30 PM were made easily via Google. Find Chef Frank near Five Guys, Dickey's, and Saigon Alley. Seated right away, our server/cashier Nikki was great! She gave some menu recommendations and explained the Chef's Choice Mystery Box, popular items like the Tuna Carpaccio or Salmon Lover, Super Star Roll, Hokkaido Roll (torched), and desserts too.
Our sushi spread:
Salmon Lover ($22): salmon, avocado, dressing, chili garlic and microgreens mix
Hamachi Kama ($14): grilled yellowtail collar
Vegetable Roll ($12): pumpkin, Japanese sweet potato, cucumber, avocado, soy wrap and sesame seeds
Super Star Roll ($22): salmon, cucumber, avocado, chu-toro (medium fatty tuna), truffles mushroom sauce, micro mix
These were all standout, I couldn't choose a favorite.
For dessert, I'd previously tried the Vanilla Mille Crepe so wanted to try something(s) new. We ended up going for everything else except the Yawamochi Ice this time!
Our sweet treats (mostly yogashi/Western-style confectionaries and desserts):
Azuma Green Tea Cheesecake ($6): creamy delicious sweet green tea blended perfectly with pure vanilla.
Red Bean Panna Cotta ($8): housemade coconut panna cotta with red bean topping.
Matcha Panna Cotta ($8): housemade coconut panna cotta with matcha topping.
The cheesecake slice was mighty good, don't be fooled by its size. Savored every spoonful! The panna cotta is coconut-based (dairy-free!), and was a nice cool dish, with the red bean layer not being overly sweet at all. Halfway through the red bean panna cotta, we ordered the matcha variation to try. For some reason, the matcha panna cotta was a bit more firm/set at the bottom than the red bean ramekin. The matcha topping itself had a pretty strong taste, so if you find matcha too bitter or earthy/grassy, then be warned. I loved it.
This is not just any sushi spot -- the fish is the best quality and super fresh, and the beautiful plates' presentation makes for a more gourmet dining experience for sure. What an amazing meal with my foodie friend Judi. The fish was so fresh, desserts delightful...the perfect bites for this triple-digit weather.Helpful 4Thanks 4Love this 7Oh no 0May 31, 2024Previous reviewDinner with Ate Rach! I've been meaning to check out Chef Frank's, and this overdue girl time meet-up (sans partners or kiddos) was the perfect excuse.
Located between the taqueria and vacant Pizza Press spot. Walked in without reservations on a Wednesday evening. It did fill up, and someone seated at the bar was celebrating a birthday!
Appetizers, classic sushi, sushi rolls, nigiri, bento, udon, sides, desserts. Different prices for bento depending on lunch or dinner.
To share, we tried the Hokkaido sushi roll ($18, snow crab, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, scallop, sauce, and crisp onion, torched).
Rach got the dinner bento box, with 3 pieces of salmon sashimi and 3 pieces of tuna sashimi ($20, comes with salad, miso soup, and rice). I got the Chirashi Don ($28, with 9 pieces sashimi, Wakame, rice).
Chirashi came in a plate with a deep center rather than a large bowl, really showcasing the fish! Not only that, but the tiny crab was so cute! I honestly didn't know if it was edible (should have asked before they cleared the plate), but after looking it up, if it was indeed sawagani freshwater softshell crab, then yes, it totally was, and I missed out. I can't remember what all the different pieces were, but they were all super high-quality fish. The wooden spoon had authentic wasabi too, wow! Shiso leaf and radish garnish, Wakame seaweed salad too. I could have just had the chirashi on its own without the sushi roll, filling portion.
Their dessert menu I didn't get a photo of, but what caught my eye was the mille crepe (vanilla, $7). I had heard of it (and matcha variations) but never had seen it available around here. The dessert was delicate, creamy, not too sweet, and a great ending to the meal.
The mystery box and hand roll combo also have my attention. The omakase is also super intriguing for a special occasion!
Gochisousama deshita!
