This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

 • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
 • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
 • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Meta-Wiki requests

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Username@xxproject
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

 • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
 • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
 • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

(I would like to have admin rights on bs.wikisource, if possible.
Reason: I want to remove or change some "mediawiki-messages" and change some protected pages.) DzWiki (talk) 17:01, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please file a local discussion on the correct noticeboard, such as the Village Pump/Bar/Admin's noticeboard, if there is not a specific page. Snowolf How can I help? 14:11, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Still no voted bureaucrats --Dark Eagle (talk) 13:31, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Did you put a local request for adminship ? -- Quentinv57 (talk) 13:46, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I had admin permissions last 1 year... but our community still don't voted any bureaucrats because we don't have needed activity --Dark Eagle (talk) 19:00, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Quentinv57's question should be interpreted as "Have you again requested of the community for admin rights to continue?" Once you have done that, we will wait about a week to judge the opinion of the community to your request. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:53, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would like to request permanent sysopship for Marathi Language Wikisource. The local request was placed on 16th May 2012 at above given link at current central discussion page at mr wikisource .Undersigned is already admin at mr wikipedia. I am core team member for wikisource and developed and created basic setups. I have contributed more than 100 articles in Wikisource and support new members for marathi language WMF wikis. I would like to have access to the sysop tool. If possible, I would like to be granted a long enough term since there is plenty of work to be done there. Thanks. AmieKim (talk) 02:15, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done Granted for 6 months to expire on 2012-11-29. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks.. When the 6 months are about to expire, drop a notice on the wiki, and bring up the matter here and we can see if it should be extended for another 6 months, for a different duration or made permanent, should the community grow in the meantime. Regards, Snowolf How can I help? 02:19, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am quite impressed by the speed of the reply. Thank you very much :) AmieKim (talk) 02:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Doãn Hiệu's term on Vietnamese Wikibooks is going to expire and he has requested of the community for another one. Because he is not proficient in English, I am here in his behalf. All of us agree, but we find it inconvenient to start a local discussion anew. AmieKim (talk) 15:09, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-en-wp@wikipedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

<translate>

 • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
 • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Aventicum has not been active on nl.wikiquote since April 5, 2012, when he shortly returned from a yearlong absence. We have tried to contact him several times after that without response. An official proposal was launched in q:nl:Wikiquote:De kantine on May 7, 2012 to end his moderator/bureaucrat-status. There 3 votes for and none against. Again no response from Aventicum himself. Whaledad (talk) 18:00, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done; please thank him for his work. PeterSymonds (talk) 18:22, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you have acted prematurely. A proper demod procedure has not been followed on this wiki, nor based on any accepted policy (there is no inactivity rule on this wiki), the persons involved were not notified per email function there was a procedure going-on. A decision by 3 persons is not a decision. People involved can hardly be described as Wikiquodians and have a history of troubles on Wikipedia. I ask a steward to reverse this action Aventicum (talk) 20:11, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(answered as a regular user, not as a steward) I think I have to agree with this. Walter (another admin on nl.wikiquote) was just as inactive as Aventicum - even more! - and he wasn't even informed about a possible removal. To me it looks like they want to "get rid of" Aventicum there, see also this response of mine. Trijnsteltalk 20:15, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not done I restored Aventicum's flag since a "not so active" sysop cannot damage a project. Please make a better and longer procedure and then (if necessary) ask for tool removal again. --Vituzzu (talk) 13:52, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but you have not restored the bureaucrate flag. Aventicum (talk) 20:43, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The restore should be handled by local 'crats, given there are active 'crats on the wiki. Both the admin bit and the crat bit. Snowolf How can I help? 21:07, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is absolute not true! I (and the other people) don't have a history of trouble on Wikipedia!! Aventicum is a promoter of copivio and nonsens and a danger for the project. How do we get rid of this moderator? Nobody knows were he or she came from. (out of the air?) There was never any election. Nobody knows him or her. He or she was there out of the bleu promoting copyvio and other nonsens. Please revision. Best regards, Sir Statler (talk) 15:22, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Nobody knows were he or she came from. (out of the air?) There was never any election." ~ that's not true (original request). Trijnsteltalk 19:43, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"There was never any election." Is absolutely 100% the truth, as your link to the Original Request clearly shows. Moreover, Aventicum complaints that "[...] the persons involved were not notified per email function there was a procedure going-on.": an email could not be sent as at that time the email function for Aventicum was not active. "A decision by 3 persons is not a decision." It is if the active community consists of about 6 members and the other 3 chose not to respond. Whether Aventicum likes it or not, the active community at Wikiquote Netherlands has made it clear they no longer have any trust in Aventicum. This has become even more clear upon Aventicum's return (after an absense of more than 6 weeks, where he immediately changed the rules for deletion requests (without any form of consensus), and proposes that nobody will be allowed to do more deletion requests than 50% of the number of new articles they created. Which suddenly would make doing deletion requests a privilege (a privilege that he himself would not even have, because his contributions to the article namespace of Wikiquote Netherlands amount to exactly... zilch) rather than a community duty. Above all else: countless articles on Wikiquote Netherlands currently violate numerous copyright rules and without proper attention Wikiquote Netherlands runs the risk of ending up like Wikiquote French some time ago: blacked out. By (again!!!) halting this process of cleanup that the few really active contributors of Wikiquote Netherlands have been engaging in, Aventicum is a danger to the project. Whaledad (talk) 21:01, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was an "election" with one vote! And this was the solution when we were talking aboute the huge copyright violente on dutch Wikiquote. This is not a moderator but a POV pusher. And the POV is copyvio and a lot of nonsens. And I think it is insane we have moderator with you have to send a waking up call (email) to get him in action! (if you can send any) So please, how do we get rid of this moderator? Kind regards, Sir Statler (talk) 21:29, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So the "real" reasons for removal are not simply inactivity and, so, the former request was right. You (the nl.wikiquote) community are completely free to remove Aventicum but making the request on meta you should use the right reason under clear local policies. --Vituzzu (talk) 21:54, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I discussed this with a few other stewards and one active user of nlwikiquote. We agreed that a second discussion would be a good idea as Aventicum is now clearly aware of a possible desysop. Please first approve a policy regarding desysops and then request the removal of his admin rights. I could explain this in Dutch as well if you prefer that. Trijnsteltalk 21:57, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note Note: that local bureaucrats should be involved in the process as well. (If possible.) Trijnsteltalk 21:57, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I already agreed with this idea when I couched it :D --Vituzzu (talk) 22:03, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even in het Nederlands Trijnstel. Vriendelijke groet, Sir Statler (talk) 22:15, 28 May 2012‎ (UTC)[reply]
Het eerste kan kloppen (ik volg nlwikiquote niet zo), maar ik begrijp niet zo goed wat je met het laatste bedoelt m.b.t. Walter. Trijnsteltalk 22:18, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sir Statler (talk) 22:26, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, ja, dat klopt. Maar het lijkt me handiger om lange lappen tekst te mailen (dan kan ik het - indien nodig - met de andere stewards delen). Trijnsteltalk 22:28, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Sir Statler (talk) 22:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done as a local bureaucrat I have restored the bureaucrat status of user [email protected] . This because the removal of the status was reverted by the steward it is only logical to restore also the bureaucrat status. If the community wishes to remove the status of user Aventicum then the need to do so in a way that is acceptabel for the steward. --Walter (talk) 08:06, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. One month and an email. And announcement in De Kantine. Is that acceptabel? In my opinion absolute nonsens because we have only three active users. And Adventum is chosen with one vote (user left years ago) and not actif. Anyway, thank you for your work Walter. Sir Statler (talk) 08:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that sounds good. Good luck in advance with it. Hopefully all ends well. Trijnsteltalk 19:48, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I warned the user on es.wiki. Let's see how it goes. Alhen (talk) 15:30, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. I have contacted the user. I would suggest that rather than an emergency desysop, the user be blocked locally instead if the matter requires it. Emergency desysops are and should be rare and only when all other avenues are blocked. The user is in full control of their account, and is not doing damage that cannot be stopped. The block's got some time to go anyway so it has no practical effect at this time. I would suggest that if warranted, a) the user be blocked, admins under blocks are not supposed to perform any action and/or b) desysop procedures be started locally.
