As a Wikimedian, I recognize the significance of volunteering. I am aware of the extraordinary results volunteerism achieves and how they show up in various aspects of life. They show up in various facets of society, such as Outreach, Advocacy, community service to address social concerns, and the needs of the underprivileged. Like the WMF, voluntarism has the power to make a worldwide impact and offers a wealth of chances for personal development. Read more…

At the end of May, the Department of Tourism of the Lviv Polytechnic National University together with Wikimedia Ukraine held a spring school “Introduction to Wikipedia: how to start writing about your native land” in Lviv, Ukraine. This five-day training was aimed at developing an interest in their native land and Wikipedia among high school students, as well as teaching them the basics of working with this platform and other Wikimedia projects such as Wikivoyage, Wikiquotes and Wikimedia Commons. A workshop in Manhean, Ghana educated attendees on open knowledge and digital citizenship. Participants learned about free access to information and how to be responsable online citizens. The session also introduced Kiwix, an offline tool for accessing Wikipedia even without internet. This project by Paradigm Initiative empowers youth with digital literacy for success in the online world. Read more…

A teacher training program in Bolivia trained 20 teachers to use Wikipedia in the classroom. The teachers learned how to use Wikipedia and contribute to it, and developed lesson plans using Wikipedia. The program was a success and the teachers will be able to use Wikipedia to teach a variety of subjects. Read more…

The month's highlight is the MOOC "Paleografia na Rede Wiki," a free online course organized by Memória e Arte in collaboration with Wiki Movimento Brasil. The course offers an immersion in the social history of cursive writing from the 14th to the 19th century. It is held in a virtual format with synchronous and recorded classes, allowing participants to read historical documents, identify diplomatic characteristics, understand document production and circulation, and recognize custody institutions. Wikimedia MKD collaborates with institutions to expand Wikipedia and related projects. New partnerships bring new knowledge, resources, and volunteers to create free educational content. The recent memorandum with the University of Goce Delchev strengthens this mission. Read more…
