The husband of The Last of Us star Melanie Lynskey has come to her defence after a former America’s Next Top Model winner body-shamed her.

After appearing in the fourth episode of the smash-hit series, which follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) who is given the job of smuggling a young girl Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the US 20 years after a pandemic swept and destroyed the world, Melanie found herself the target of a tweet questioning her suitability for the role based on her body shape.

The Yellowjackets actress, 45, made her debut as the fearsome Kathleen, but Adrienne Curry, who won America’s Next Top Model in 2003, said in a now-deleted tweet that: ‘Her body says life of luxury…not post-apocalyptic warlord.’

‘Where is Linda Hamilton when you need her?’ Adrianne added in reference to The Terminator star.

While Melanie herself called out the model, her actor husband Jason, 42, has also made it clear he wasn’t happy either.

While he didn’t directly mention or tag Adrienne, he posted a tweet that said: ‘You… you could have just… not tweeted it.

‘But you did, and people are upset with what you said.’

He then jokingly said that ‘whatever happens now’, Adrienne should ‘not learn anything from this under any circumstances.’

‘Dig your heels in deeper, and double down! BECOME the victim! You can do this!! I believe in you!!’

His clap back picked up more than 25,000 likes and plenty of comments from people who loved his response, as well as backing his wife, who had already been vocal about her issues with the original comments.

‘This made me smile. I hope everyone has a significant other like Jason. What a response,’ one person wrote.

When responding to Adrienne, Melanie also pointed out that the photos the model had posted were from a cover shoot from Instyle Magazine and not a production still from The Last of Us.

She added: ‘I’m playing a person who meticulously planned & executed an overthrow of FEDRA.

‘I am supposed to be SMART, ma’am. I don’t need to be muscly. That’s what henchmen are for.’

Adrienne later tweeted that she was ‘so over everything’ adding: ‘Actors can’t allow people to not like their characters? I am DONE’, and she has now deactivated her account after the backlash.

The Last of Us is available to stream on Now in the UK and HBO Max in the US.
