Apart from the PSVR2 it doesn’t sound like the first State of Play of the year is going to have anything other than third party games.

Everyone knew there was a chance that if a State of Play was announced for this month it would probably still end up being a disappointment, as it was probably going to focus on the PlayStation VR2.

That’s not entirely how it’s turned out though as while the online showcase been announced for this week it will happen the day after the new VR headset is already out, which seems odd timing.

While PlayStation VR2 will be a major part of the event, it doesn’t sound like there’s going to be any Sony-made PlayStation 5 titles announced, just games made by other publishers.

Sony’s description of the showcase is brief and not especially encouraging, with a promise of ‘new looks at some anticipated games from our third party partners, as well as a first glimpse at five PlayStation VR2 games set to arrive later this year.’

‘Then, settle in for more than 15 minutes of all-new gameplay details and updates on Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, the next game from Rocksteady Studios.’

Not counting the update to Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call Of The Mountain is the only first party release for the PlayStation VR2 launch, and yet Sony Is known to be working on several more unannounced titles.

Although the description from the PlayStation Blog is more ambiguous the official tweet seems to imply no new first party game reveals of any kind.

As for what else will be there, that’s hard to say but it doesn’t sound like any of the third party games will necessarily be new announcements.

That doesn’t mean there’ll be nothing of interest though, as despite having been in development for over five years there’s still been almost no gameplay footage of Suicide Squad, which is very worrying given it’s due out in May.

The State Of Play though is this Thursday, February 23 at 9pm GMT.
