Although Naughty Dog has tried to suggest it’s not a certainty a reliable source claims that work has already begun on The Last Of Us Part 3.

Officially speaking, The Last Of Us Part 3 may never happen. Creator Neil Druckmann has previously stated that while he does have a story outline for a third entry, developer Naughty Dog has already started work on its next game and the way they’re talking about it, it sounds more like a new IP than a second sequel.

Even after the success of the TV show became clear, Naughty Dog has insisted that a third game is not confirmed and may never happen, but one source claims that it’s been in production for over six months and that motion capture filming will begin this year.

‘It’s early, story details are tweaked and everything is potentially up in the air to be changed, but I assure you I’ve heard Ellie is at least as important in The Last Of Part 3 as she was in Part 2,’ claims proven source ViewerAnon.

Although ViewerAnon is a well-respected rumourmonger their speciality is movies and TV, not games. In fact, one of the reasons they’re deemed reliable is because they got so much right about The Last Of Us TV show.

However, they have correctly leaked video game information before, such as knowing about Crash Bandicoot 4 almost a year before it was announced, and have insisted since last December that The Last Of Us Part 3 is in production.

They described ‘major filming’ as taken place this year but, perhaps because of their unfamiliarity with gaming, seemed confused as to whether that was motion capture or not. Although given how odd the idea of having live action footage in the game would be, that is presumably what they meant.

The comment about Ellie is not as strange as it may seem considering the ending of The Last Of Part 2, as while it was a given she’d appear in a third game in some form it was never guaranteed that she’d play a major role.

Although ViewerAnon does not suggest that anything has changed recently, about Naughty Dog’s plans, there does seem to have been upheaval at the studio recently. Reports suggest that Destiny developer Bungie, which Sony now owns, has criticised the planned The Last Of Us multiplayer game during an internal review and that it’s been put on the back burner.

Supposedly only a skeleton crew is now working on the game, which was not mentioned during the summer PlayStation Showcase and of which only a couple of pieces of concept art have been shown publicly.

Whether that has sped up work on The Last Of Us Part 3 is not clear but ViewerAnon seems adamant that it is in production and that Naughty Dog is merely being coy when they imply it might not happen.
