Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford has provided a cruel reminder of the passage of time by sharing a rare photo of his tall teenage son Cruz.
Weather presenter and former Dancing On Ice star Alex, 43, has recently been on holiday in New York City with his family, and shared some lovely snaps of his trip to the Big Apple.
Amongst the photos of the Brooklyn Bridge, Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center, and the Empire State Building, it was actually the height of his son that caught the eyes of fans.
People couldn’t believe it that Alex’s teenage son Cruz, 14, was not only growing up faster than they expected, but that he already appears to be taller than his TV star dad.
TV chef Dean Edwards, who has worked with Alex for ITV in the past, commented: ‘Hang on! How the hell has Cruz grown up that much!’ with a shocked face emoji.
Another fan said: ‘Size of Cruz tho!’ with even more surprised face emojis, while a third GMB viewer said they had to double-take when looking at the sweet pictures.
Alex also paid tribute to his 97-year-old Aunty Elda – one of his dad’s eldest sisters – who ‘still has the skin of a baby’ despite approaching 100.
In a treasured and precious photo, Alex and Elda posed together, with the presenter putting his arm around his aunt as she sat in a large leather armchair, looking comfortable in a sky blue zip-up house coat.
Other photos showed Alex taking in a New York Mets baseball game at Citi Field Stadium in Queens, visiting Times Square, and visiting the top of the Rockefeller Center.
In 2020, Alex split from his long-term partner Natalia, whom she shares Cruz with. Cruz and Natalia both moved out of Alex’s home just weeks before Covid-19 lockdowns began in the UK.
Alex said at the time: ‘We tried to work through things, but at some point you realise the best thing to do for everybody is walk away, but walking away is never easy.’
In 2022, he married his Australian fiancée Imogen McKay at a ceremony in Mallorca, and made Cruz his ‘mini-best man’ – and pictures from less than two years ago have shown just how much Cruz has grown in that time.
On the day, Cruz was also ring-bearer after Alex had previously told reporters that his son would play a vital role in the wedding.
Earlier this year, Alex bemoaned the lack of contact he had with Cruz while filming Race Across the World, despite being crowned as winner of the competition.
‘I want to call home desperately,’ he told ED! ‘My watch is still on English time. I’m thinking “My son has just got home” and I’d like to give him a call to see how his day was. And I can’t do that, and that’s quite heart breaking.’
