Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman in DC Comics’ Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 has been hailed as the perfect send-off.

The legendary actor, who began voicing the superhero in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, died aged 66 in 2022 after being diagnosed with cancer.

His last outing as the Dark Knight has just been released in a scene that has left fans in ‘an absolute mess of tears’

In Conroy’s final scene in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3, his Batman faces off Mark Hamill’s Joker on a rooftop.

His parting words were: ‘I care, Joker… about Gotham… about justice. And if it has to end, at least I go out like this, being Batman.’

On X, social media users have declared the closing lines as a fitting tribute to their ‘all-time favourite’ Batman.

Among them was @MyLove_OfMusic who wrote: ‘I’m a mess. An absolute mess of tears. I never knew much about Kevin Conroy in life, but he was the voice of my favorite hero for all the stages where DC Comics helped MY life, and I loved him for it. He will always be my Batman.’

@NellaKrios added: ‘The best and my all time favorite Batman. His Batman and the animated series were never missed at my house. My notes grew up watching it with me. It was family time for us. Their introduction to comics and the freedom they give.’

Echoing their sentiment, @Bluenightbeyond penned: ‘I feel like almost crying again. God, what a perfect line to close off Kevin Conroy last time voicing this character. “And if it has to end, at least I go out by being BATMAN!!)’

@mk_aln9 also said: ‘This scene was the only best thing in this movie no doubts! Kevin Conroy was amazing in his final performance!’

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3 concludes the DC Universe’s animated Tomorrowverse trilogy.

The film follows a variety of superheroes turning the multiverse into a single universe to defeat the Anti-Monitor and reset reality.

When Conroy’s death was announced two years ago, his fellow Batman: The Animated Series co-stars, including Hamill, paid tribute.

In a statement, Star Wars legend Hamill said Conroy was ‘one of my favourite people on the planet’ and that he ‘loved him like a brother.’

He said: ‘He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did.’

‘Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.’

Diane Pershing, who played Poison Ivy opposite Conroy, wrote on Facebook said: ‘He really put in a lot of time at the (Comic Con events), to the joy of all of his fans.

‘He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world.’

Conroy, who guest starred in Cheers, Murphy Brown, Spenser: For Hire and Matlock – voiced the Dark Knight in 60 different productions from September 1992 onwards.

These included 15 films like Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and 15 animated series, such as Batman: The Animated Series, spanning nearly 400 episodes and more than 100 hours of television, as well as video games.

Conroy’s acting career started after He studied at The Julliard School alongside Christopher Reeve, Frances Conroy, and his roommate Robin Williams.

He was also featured as a live-action Bruce Wayne when DC Comics shows Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman had several crossover episodes.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3 is available on various streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video.
