Astro Bot PS5 controller revealed by Sony
Get a feel for Astro Bot (Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Sony has revealed a new Astro Bot themed PS5 controller, complete with the robot’s signature blue eyes on the touchpad.

Astro Bot looks set to be the last (and almost only) major PlayStation exclusive in 2024, so Sony is going all out to celebrate the platformer with a new PlayStation 5 controller.

The Astro Bot DualSense controller functions exactly the same as any other DualSense controller, but it sports a sleek blue and white colour scheme, carved-in robotic lines, along with Astro’s blue eyes beaming out from the touchpad.

Unlike Microsoft’s Deadpool & Wolverine Xbox controllers, you can actually buy this controller – it’s not just a competition prize – although it is said to be available only in limited quantities.

If you’re keen on buying the controller, pre-orders will go live on PlayStation Direct from Friday August 9 at 10am local time in the UK and Europe, and 7am PT in the US. The controller will also be available at select retailers, but the exact ones aren’t specified (Amazon and/or GAME are the best bets).

The controller itself will launch on September 6, the same day as Astro Bot, priced at £69.99. This is £10 more than the average DualSense controller, which usually retails for £59.99.

It’s certainly one of the better looking PS5 controllers though, and a vast improvement over the US exclusive Concord controller announced last week.

A specific Astro Bot controller is apt too considering the upcoming game, like Astro’s Playroom, will utilise many DualSense features, such as feeling the different surfaces Astro walks on, haptic feedback, and motion control through the in-game controller ship.

Developed by Team Asobi, Astro Bot boasts over 50 planets, new power-ups, and many, many cameos from PlayStation characters past and present. The first trailer debuted at Sony’s State Of Play in May, which showed off massive boss fights and the new bulldog jetpack.

As for what we can expect next from PlayStation, Sony is set to have a key presence at the Tokyo Game Show in September, where it will likely show off Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and, perhaps, the PS5 Pro.
