Ben Affleck’s friend has shed light on the actor’s reported personal struggles while rumours about his marriage to Jennifer Lopez continue to mount.
The Batman star, 51, has been keeping a low profile in recent weeks while speculation swirls around whether he and wife Jennifer, 55, are heading for a divorce after two years of marriage.
The couple haven’t addressed the rumours but fans have been piecing together clues, including Jennifer cancelling her world tour to spend time with family, reports of their $60million (£46million) mansion being put up for sale and Ben not attending J-Lo’s birthday celebrations this summer.
According to Ben’s friend and renowned movie producer and director Kevin Smith, the actor is dealing with some private issues behind the scenes.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Kevin, 53, said: ‘Obviously, he’s been going through a thing, or at least that’s what it says in the press and whatnot.
‘I, being his least trustworthy friend who’s very loose-lipped… my wife was like, “Oh, you should reach out to him”.’
Smith added: ‘I was like, “The last person he needs to hear from right now is the guy who chats a lot.” So when he’s in a good place, he’ll let me know.’
The filmmaker’s comments come amid continued speculation about the breakdown of J-Lo and Affleck’s marriage.
The pair were married in July 2022, but just two years after their wedding, rumours of a split have been swirling.
The duo first started dating in 2002 and got engaged but called things off two years later in 2004, just days before their wedding.
Most recently, images of the pair sharing awkward public kisses have also circulated as it was claimed by an insider that Ben felt ‘temporarily insane’ during his marriage to J Lo.
The singer also cancelled her tour to ‘take time off to be with her children, family and close friends,’ and many have wondered if her marital problems were also a contributing factor.
In July, Ben was noticeably absent as Jennifer celebrated her 55th birthday with friends in the Hamptons, New York where she threw a lavish Regency era-themed party.
Their second wedding anniversary fell on July 16 but it appears they spent it apart.
