Amid a multitude of Silent Hill projects, Konami is now rumoured to be working on a new internally developed entry in the series.

After being starved of new Silent Hill games for over a decade, fans are suddenly being inundated with new titles from multiple different studios.

This began last year with live service game Silent Hill: Ascension, which was perhaps the worst comeback imaginable. This was followed by Silent Hill: The Short Message earlier this year, which was co-developed by Konami and HexaDrive and was pretty bad too.

A bunch more are on the horizon, including Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake in October, but now an insider has claimed there’s another Silent Hill project in development and this one is made purely by Konami themselves.

In response to Konami’s latest financial report, where it outlined how it will ‘continue to produce completely new titles in the Silent Hill series’, insider Dusk Golem claimed to have some further details of these future projects.

Along with naming already confirmed titles Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f, Dusk Golem, who is mostly reliable when it comes to leaks around survival horror titles, added: ‘There is also a internally developed Silent Hill game in the works, and a couple of other unannounced things.’

All the upcoming Silent Hill projects announced so far are being developed by third party studios, with Bloober Team on the Silent Hill 2 remake, No Code on Silent Hill: Townfall, and NeoBards Entertainment on Silent Hill f. The latter, which is the most promising based on early trailers, is set to be the first mainline instalment since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour.

As such, it’s unclear what a new game in the series by Konami could be. In recent years, the studio has largely abandoned AAA development in favour of remasters and smaller titles like Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, so a Silent Hill project might be on the smaller end of the spectrum in terms of scope.

It could even simply be a remastered collection of older games, like last year’s Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1.

If true, the more exciting prospect might be the ‘other unannounced things’. While it’s unclear if this just means other Silent Hill projects, this reignites hope that a new Castlevania could be on the cards. Based on Konami’s recent history though, we wouldn’t hold out too much hope.

When is the next Silent Hill game out?

The next Silent Hill project is Silent Hill 2 which comes out October 8 on PlayStation 5 and PC and is remake of the 2001 original.
