Looking for an escape? You could find true peace up in Scotland, where no unwanted visitors will be able to disturb you in a property solely accessible via ferry.

Nestled on the stunning archipelago of the Shetland Islands, an isolated island home has hit the market – and has a price tag of less than £100,000.

A former schoolhouse, the property was built in 1893 but has since been converted into a three-bedroom family home with some impressive features.

If hosting film nights is your thing, then you’ll be delighted to hear that there’s a private cinema room that can accommodate up to 20 people – so why not invite all your neighbours? (Or, given the secluded location, as many as you can muster).

And, for added relaxation potential, there’s an indoor hot tub tucked inside a spa room, alongside a changing cubicle and shower.

The property comes with half an acre of land too (marked with a traditional stone wall lining the perimeter), so if gardening is your thing, you’ll be right at home here.

Fear not, though: while it might be remote, ferries to and from the Scottish mainland run all year round, seven days a week on the Aberdeen-Lerwick route. You can even take the overnight journey if you wish, and book a cabin for the 12-13 hour journey.

Ready to count your pennies? It’s heading to auction on August 22 through Online Property Auctions Scotland – and for just £80,000, which, considering the bougie features and general state of the housing market, isn’t too shabby.

Comparatively, in May, Gov UK data showed that the average cost of a London property was £532,000 – and in June, Zoopla placed the UK-wide average at £265,600 (AKA, almost £200,000 more than this Shetlands property is going for).

If you’re already dreaming about how to furnish it, downstairs there’s a hallway leading through to a lounge, fitted with an open fireplace, as well as a kitchen and separate dining room. There’s also a shower room and two porches.

Upstairs, you’ll find three spacious double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

‘The price reflects the need for some refurbishment and modernisation, but viewing is highly recommended,’ a statement from the auction house read.

‘It is a picturesque location featuring dramatic scenery and is ideal for the wildlife spotter.’

Elsewhere, if you’re looking to go the whole hog and buy an entire island, the ‘magical’ uninhabited Fladda-Chuain is on the market for £190,000.

Translating to ‘Flat Island of the Ocean,’ it’s the largest of the Fladda Island Chain, found just three miles northwest of the Trotternish peninsula on the Isle of Skye.

With 69.99 acres of land, there’s no shortage of space – and it was once the subject of fascinating folklore, noted by legend as a sacred place where it’s eternally summer and the sun never sets.

Ready to start your new island adventure? The possibilities are endless.
