Fans are upset again with a Helldivers 2 patch, as they lay out the changes that need to happen to return the game to its former popularity.

One of the biggest hits of 2024 so far, Helldivers 2, has seen its player base shrink from a peak of 450,000 players in one day, six months ago, to just under 50,000 this past Sunday.

Part of the decline is natural – people move on to new games – but the other reason seems to be that fans are continuously left unimpressed by weapon nerfs brought on by many of the recent updates from developer Arrowhead Studios.

The latest patch is adding a number of fixes, but the general consensus among fans is that they’re focusing on the wrong things.

To add to players’ frustrations, Helldivers 2 patch 01.001.003 has completed nine fairly minor fixes compared to 14 ‘known issues’ that they haven’t been fixed yet.

The fixes include a handful of crash, performance, and weapon bug issues, as seen below.

That’s not enough, fans say, as many are pointing at the ‘known issues’ as priority, such as ‘Bile Titan sometimes does not take damage to the head.’

‘This should be a priority to fix considering how anti-tanks are a major part of this game.

‘I’m so tired of running around waiting for my stratagem to cool down while getting chased by chargers, rag-dolled by impalers, and slowed by hunters just to finally get one reload in. And shoot the freaking BT [Bile Titan] head and nothing happened!!!’ Super Sheepherder says on Reddit.

‘Bile Titan head hitbox too. I’m not a developer but if I was making a shooter game I’d prioritise making the shooting work,’ adds Ryan Taylorrz.

Over on Twitter fans have highlighted the issue of weapons not being strong enough, with some saying they’re retiring from rescuing Super Earth altogether.

‘Make the game hard but fair, we’re sick of you nerfing stuff when we find strats to keep us alive,’ DD Boo says.

The newest patch came out Tuesday afternoon and Helldivers 2’s vocal fanbase has wasted no time in shooting it down.

The Helldivers 2 team has been very good at listening to their fans in the past, even admitting that they, at one point, went too far with weapon nerfs.

At the moment, however, the live service shooter’s declining player base is coupled with an increase in complaints, especially when it comes to nerfs that make the game harder, and there’s no sign of a turnaround yet.
