A couple who were on a date night and won a casino jackpot were followed home and shot and robbed.
Kim Chambliss and her boyfriend Val Delacruz thought it was their lucky night at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, cashing out a $3,000 jackpot.
But they were not aware that they were targeted by a duo who watched them gamble at the slots for two hours and stalked them as they drove to their home in Riverview, Florida.
Doorbell camera footage showed two masked suspects, identified as Marcus Jenkins, 34, and Tristin Wright, 36, ambushing the couple in their driveway shortly before 5am on August 2.
One of the suspects walked up and pointed a gun at one of the victims lying at the doorstep terrified.
Moments later, the second suspect showed up and brandished his gun.
‘I ran and I fell in the door and the other guy came out and shot me again for the third time in my left leg,’ Delacruz told FOX 13.
The CCTV footage showed Delacruz pleading to the two men hovering over him after being shot in both legs.
A neighbor went outside, prompting the two suspects to flee in their car – but not before making off with Delacruz’s watch and jewelry and Chambliss’ purse.
Responding Hillsborough County deputies applied a tourniquet to Delacruz’s wounds including his right thigh.
‘I lost so much blood,’ he said. ‘If they didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have made it.’
The couple said they only have one date night monthly because they both work very hard. Delacruz even joked that he needed to win the jackpot to cover what he spent on food and drinks.
‘I hit and I got a jackpot. And, you know, I was dancing,’ he said of the night before it was ruined.
‘How many people do they do that to?’
Chambliss, who was not injured, said they are ‘just average people’ who were ‘out having a good time’.
‘And to know that we didn’t even realize that people were following us every step of the way, it’s scary,’ she said. ‘It’s scary.’
Jenkins faces charges including attempted first-degree murder. Wright, who was allegedly driving, has been charged with principal to attempted murder.
Investigators are looking for a third suspect in the crime.
Delacruz said his doctors told him he may not be able to walk for six months.
