First person historical role-player Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will not be released this year, but it does have a new release date.

Although delays have become less prevalent since the end of the pandemic, when a game that’s due out relatively soon goes for months without any kind of new reveal, it usually only means one thing.

So it is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is confirmed to no longer be a 2024 release, as developer Warhouse Studios announces a new release date of February 11, 2025.

The game will still feature at Gamescom next week but according to Warhorse, ‘We aimed for the end of the year and almost made it – almost is not good enough though, so we slipped to 2025.’

The delay was rumoured on Wednesday evening and Warhorse quickly put together a video to confirm the news, even though the game had never been given a specific release date – which is also never a good sign.

Gamescom will see the release of a 20 minute long gameplay showcase and news about a Collectors Edition, so Warhorse are clearly still hoping next week will be an important moment for the game.

The original had its problems, including the dubious politics of its director, but it was an interesting and unusual attempt at a historically accurate medieval role-playing game.

The first person action wasn’t very good and, because there were no dragons or orcs wandering around, it could be a little dull at times but it certainly seemed to achieve most of the goals Warhorse was aiming for, and stood out amongst other would-be Skyrim clones.

At launch, its other problem was that it suffered from serious bugs and glitches but everything that’s been shown of the sequel so far suggests a major technical improvement in terms of graphics and, hopefully, stability.

For a game that is so keen on emphasising its historical realism though the English accents of the trailers are very peculiar, especially for anyone that doesn’t realise it’s actually set in 15th century Bohemia – the modern day precursor to the Czech Republic.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will now be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 11.

The problem with that new release date though is that it’s just one week before Xbox console exclusive Avowed, which is also a first person action role-player reminiscent of Skyrim, that was delayed from 2024 into early 2025. But then the video games industry always has been terrible at release dates…
