The summer holiday Friday was brought to an abrupt end in Gravesend, Kent, after a body was discovered in River Thames.

A tragic discovery was made in the river near Royal Pier Road in the waterside town at lunchtime today.

Footage shows a forensic tent set up on the pontoon at the pier head.

The emergency services were alerted at about 12.41pm after reports of a body in the water, with the ambulance, Coastguard and the RNLI in attendance along with Kent Police officers.

The force told Metro.co.uk: ‘Kent Police was called at around 12.41pm on Friday 16 August 2024, to a report of a body in the River Thames near Royal Pier Road in Gravesend.

‘Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service, H.M. Coastguard and the RNLI, and remain at the scene.’
