It’s official: filming has wrapped on the final season of You which means we’ll soon be saying goodbye to Joe Goldberg for good.

The Netflix psychological thriller started in 2018 and is based on the novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes.

It’s been a major hit on the streaming platform, with viewership increasing season by season – it’s fifth season, however, will be its very last.

The story follows bookstore owner Joe (Penn Badgley) who, in season one, becomes obsessed with an aspiring writer.

From there, the show has dealt with romance, murder, and so much else – but Penn gave fans a devastating update on the series this week when he confirmed that filming for the final season was officially done.

Jumping on the recent ‘demure’ TikTok trend, Penn gave details about his last ever day filming as the iconic character he’s now played on the series for six years.

‘That’s a wrap on Joe Goldberg,’ he captioned the video.

‘You see how I show up to work?’ he began. ‘Very demure, very mindful. I don’t really do too much when I’m at work. I’m very… mindful. Playing a romantic icon for five seasons, I’m very modest, I’m very mindful. You see my shirt? Show them the shoulders, not the boulders.’

In the comments, TikTok user Mary said: ‘I’m glad to know that Penn Badgley is as chronically online as I am. Very demure, very cutesy, very mindful!’

The American actor, 37, was seen wearing a grey vest top in the clips he shared, lowering the camera to show it off when he asked if his followers had ‘seen’ his shirt.

The demure trend began when TikTok creator Jools Lebron shared a clip of herself parodying 1960s conservative advice commercials for how women should dress at work.

And Penn used it to soften the blow of confirming that the popular thriller is coming to an end next year – it will have been running for seven years by 2025.

What do we know about You season five?

The fifth season of the Netflix psychological thriller was ordered in 2023 after a successful fourth season, with filming beginning just a few weeks later.

Although Netflix hasn’t announced an exact release date, the final season is expected to air in the last quarter of 2024 – if season five is split in half like season four, it could be 2025 before the show comes to an end.

One big change ahead of the final episodes is that lead showrunner Sera Gamble has stepped back from her role, with Michael Foley and Justin Lo taking over head duties.

Sera is now serving as an executive producer on the series.

Details about the plot have been kept under wraps but Kate Galvin (Charlotte Richie) and Tati Gabrielle (Marienne Bellamy) have both been slated to return from earlier seasons.

New faces include Madeline Brewer as Bronte, Anna Camp as both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, and Griffin Matthews as Teddy Lockwood, while actors Natasha Benham, Pete Ploszek, Tom Francis, and B will join the cast.

One huge name in the cast who made a shocking appearance in the season five teaser was Wednesday star Jenna Ortega, who had previously starred in You season two.

@Manav_01, a fan catching up with the series, posted on Twitter: ‘Finally completed the series You and this was one of the best and most mind blowing series, this series is a pure example showing that how deep can a human mind go and what he can do.’

The fourth season followed Joe as he lived in London under a new name, Johnathan Moore. He then developed an obsession with a woman named Kate, who was the director of an art gallery.
