Killer Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) web of lies keeps getting bigger and bigger in EastEnders – but next week, one of his secrets is exposed by an unexpected character.

Forthcoming scenes on the BBC soap will see Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) rock Reiss’ fiancée Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) with shock news about his debts.

As fans know, Reiss is up to his eyeballs in debt and has conned Sharon and business partner Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in a fake investment scheme.

Having grown suspicious of Reiss, Phil has made increasingly threatening demands for his money back, setting a deadline for him to repay him by.

Next week, Reiss is a nervous wreck as deadline day arrives, and he tries to convince Sonia to go for a day out to escape, but she refuses.

Up Next

Later, Phil turns up on the doorstep raging, and Reiss is forced to tell Sonia that he is supposed to pay him back today but can’t.

Sharon and Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) intervene to cool things down, and Sonia is able to buy them time by pleading with Sharon.

However, Teddy later decides to take on the debt from Phil and tells shocked Reiss who hopes it’s not too good to be true and decides to keep it from Sonia.

Later in the week, Sonia is worried about her eight-week viability scan, but is rattled when Sharon reveals that Teddy took on the debt.

Stunned that Reiss hasn’t told her Sonia confronts him at the scan and tells him it’s madness to make a deal with someone they barely know.

Speaking about the latest development, actress Natalie Cassidy says it is ‘a big disappointment’ for Sonia to hear the news from Sharon, noting: ‘She keeps finding out these bits and pieces from other people, not Reiss.’

On why Sonia has stood by Reiss amid his lies, she continued: ‘Sonia’s main drive in life now is to have her baby and make a family with Reiss. If they hadn’t had the IVF journey together, I think Sonia might have told Reiss where to go after one too many lies.

‘There have been so many lies, but she’s so dead set on having this family that Sonia is just going with it.’

However, the couple will soon find themselves having much, much bigger things to worry about, as also next week, we will see the police arrive at The Vic looking for them…

With Reiss having smothered his comatose wife Debbie to death last month in a bid to fix his money woes, is the truth finally about to catch up with him?

EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 19 August at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
