Jakub Kiwior was left out of the Arsenal squad for the Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday, with the defender not suffering with injury but simply not selected.

The 24-year-old has not been a regular in the starting XI since arriving from Spezia in January 2023, but he did make 20 Premier League appearances last season and 30 in all competitions.

However, as the Gunners start their Premier League campaign at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon, the Poland international was not even on the substitutes’ bench.

The versatile defender is not injured, but Mikel Arteta simply has other defensive options, with new signing Riccardo Calafiori and fit-again Jurrien Timber selected on the bench.

The starting back four against Wolves was Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Oleksandr Zinchenko, so Arteta certainly has excellent options in defence.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Pole could leave the club before the transfer window closes, although a move is not close to being done.

The report states that ‘nothing is close yet with any club’ although it is an ‘open situation’ regarding his future.

Polish publication Meczyki reported earlier in the summer that Arsenal are open to letting Kiwior go, willing to agree a loan exit with an obligation to buy.

The report states that there is plenty of interest from Italy, where Kiwior played earlier in his career, while there are also interested parties elsewhere.
