Former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin has claimed she’s ‘banned’ from Strictly Come Dancing for a specific reason.

The TV presenter, 56, who co-hosted BBC Breakfast until 2021, has appeared on the likes of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity MasterChef.

But there’s one competition she’s firmly said no to.

‘They know I’m a terrible dancer so the possibility of being hugely embarrassing is massive,’ Louise said.

She added to The Times: ‘I’m banned for being embarrassing.’

While she’s not appearing in the ballroom anytime soon, it was previously revealed Louise is taking part in another gruelling reality competition, the Gladiators celebrity special.

The triathlete said she is ‘so excited’ to be on the show alongside Joel Dommett, comedian Rob Beckett and actress Ellie Taylor, after watching it for years and thinking it looked like ‘terrifying fun’.

Elsewhere in the interview, the broadcaster and author also delved into her reasons for stepping down from the BBC role, explaining: ‘That job comes with an enormous amount of pressure. It’s relentless.

‘The hours are horrific, utterly, utterly gruelling, and it has an impact on every different part of your life — when you eat, when you sleep, how you feel.

‘It was my dream job and I absolutely loved it but I’d done it enough.’

During her final broadcast on BBC Breakfast in 2021, Louise revealed that her co-host Dan Walker was the reason she had stayed on ‘much longer than I actually meant to’.

‘We’ve been through tough stories,’ she said. ‘We’ve been through tough programmes.

‘The one thing has been absolutely clear, you always have my back. You’ve made me laugh, you made me roll my eyes, you pass me tissues when I cried.’

She went on to thank the BBC Breakfast team and viewers, saying: ‘It is really, really thanks to you for watching all of these years. You are absolutely at the heart of everything that we do.

‘I feel proud, it’s been a privilege to sit here on the red sofa and report on our shared history. You’ve made me feel welcome in your homes, welcome in your hearts.’
