The Food Council seeks to protect and improve the local environmental resources of Montgomery County related to agriculture and food, by collaborating with environmental stakeholders and policymakers to implement programs and policies that will promote sustainability in our food system.

Focus areas include:

  • Increasing regional food waste composting capacity
  • Supporting the establishment of community composting education sites and composting-related educational programs
  • Reducing food waste in Montgomery County
  • Increasing awareness of the benefits of plant-based diets
  • Increasing local, sustainable procurement
