Oftentimes, individual contributors who demonstrate an ability to deliver great sales numbers are 'anointed' with the opportunity to move into a sales leadership role. The challenge though is that they are not provided the transition blueprint or training and support to make a successful transition. As such, they continue to behave like they did as an individual contributor, and focus on delivering the number. This may work in the short term, but for sustained success as a sales leader, we must learn to develop our sales leadership skillsets and capabilities, and not simply focus on the numbers.
