Rite Here Rite Now (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As the soundtrack to the movie of the same name, Rite Here Rite Now is the musical portion of a concert film shot over two nights at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum in 2023. Swedish occult-rock titans Ghost deliver a multimedia experience—part concert, part backstage drama. The flick is a hi-def live experience spliced with scenes from frontperson Cardinal Copia’s quest to prolong his tenure as the band’s figurehead and lead vocalist. As the story goes, he’s the only Ghost vocalist to record more than one full-length with the band, and he’s desperate to retain his position. How does it all play out? No spoilers here. The soundtrack focuses on material from Ghost’s 2015 album Meliora forward, including the propulsive “Rats”, their Grammy-winning single “Cirice”, their cover of the late Texas troubadour Roky Erickson’s “If You Have Ghosts” and the sing-along crowd favourite “Spillways” from their 2022 album Impera. In true live-album fashion, much of Copia’s onstage banter is here, including his nod to heavy metal heroes Iron Maiden when he asks the crowd to scream during “Absolution”. Through it all, Copia and masked cohorts the Nameless Ghouls deliver a bravura performance steeped in stylish theatre, liturgical melodies and faux-Satanic revelry. Rite Here Rite Now also features the new studio track “The Future Is a Foreign Land”, which conjures the psych-rock guitars and ’60s bounce of Ghost hits “Mary on a Cross” and “Kiss the Go-Goat”, live versions of which are also on the soundtrack.
