Afro Vibes

Afro Vibes

No mere bystanders to Afrobeats, reggaetoneros, traperos and Latin pop artists continue to find inspiration amid the genre’s global proliferation. While some acts dabble on a track or two, Brytiago takes a more dedicated approach on Afro Vibes that goes well beyond mere trend-hopping. The second instalment in an apparent series, this eight-song effort follows 2023’s Trap Vibes while shifting the rhythms accordingly. Thematically, the Puerto Rican singer is in a fairly hedonistic mode here; opener “Tú Na Más” starts on the dance floor, then proceeds to the bedroom. He conjures playful beachfront pleasures on “Sin Filtro” and far freakier fare on “Kinky”, all bolstered by the balmy instrumentals. With the noted exception of Akon, who adds his vocal signature to the vibrant “Paracaídas”, the guest list largely centres on other Latin artists such as Beéle and Lenny Tavárez. On the romantic highlight “Café”, Farruko and Piso 21 bring out Brytiago’s poppier side, singing sweet nothings over its thumping reggae-inflected beat.
