Parker Graye reclaims her agency on “Halfway”, the empowered and reflective new single from the Canadian singer-songwriter. Graye says she and co-writers Dan Botch and Garrett Ward began a writing session working off the word “halfway”, which Graye had saved in a list of potential song titles. Botch picked up a guitar and played a riff, and Graye tested out potential lyrics, with the trio eventually emerging with the song “Halfway”. “When we wrote this song, I’d been through a series of situationships where the guys would come in hot and heavy, and then start showing signs that they weren’t into it anymore, but they wouldn’t say it,” Graye says. “Every single one of them always came back, and I found myself getting more and more tired of the repeating cycle. As we wrote, I reflected on those relationship dynamics and how I’d promised myself I wouldn’t let someone show me twice that they didn’t want me.” Listen to “Halfway” and then check back as we showcase the finest modern country songs made by Canadians.
