Wales’ Kelly Lee Owens is not just an electronic producer and DJ with a keen grasp of the steeliest techno, but also a singer/songwriter with a deft avant-pop touch. Early on, she fused grime and R&B on the 2017 single “More Than a Woman” and practised ambient-pop world-building with the Jenny Hval collab “Anxi.”—a highlight of her self-titled 2017 debut album. She’s never stayed in one place for long: her 2019 Jon Hopkins collab, “Luminous Spaces,” is a blissful sunrise rave anthem, while “Release”, from her 2022 album LP.8, is industrial-strength minimalism.
