Part 2: The Art of Building a Remote Team – The Essentials Let’s break down what makes a great “Remote Team.” A team is a collective of people working together, owning their roles, communicating, and supporting one another to accomplish a shared goal. A remote team does the same thing—just without office distractions, politics, or unnecessary bureaucracy. The real power of a team isn’t in where you are—it’s in who you are and what you can achieve together. Great teams are built on trust, commitment, and shared values. The present & future of teamwork is remote, and when you combine the best talent from around the globe, you unlock unlimited potential. 🔓 I’M A TEAM GUY. As the oldest of five boys and playing ice hockey my whole life, teamwork is second nature to me. The lessons you learn in team sports—trust, accountability, communication—stay with you for life. And they translate perfectly into building a great remote team. Here’s what I’ve learned: It’s all about values. -Trust -Commitment -Accountability -Selflessness -Integrity -Communication -Hard Work These values are the backbone of successful teams. When aligned, they create an unstoppable force—regardless of location. So, how do you build a stellar remote team? Simple: Find the best people worldwide who align with your mission. Geography doesn’t matter as long as they have good WiFi. 🗝️Here are the critical elements of a successful Remote All-Star: -Leadership, starting with leading oneself -Clear and proactive communication -Self-sufficiency and organization -A results-focused mindset -Mindfulness and work-life balance -Aligned values and mission 🤩Key benefits of this approach: -Happier employees = Better work -Lower costs—no office overhead passed onto clients -A global talent pool unconstrained by physical location -Freedom to work when and where you perform best -No office distractions—small talk, politics, or bureaucracy -A lean, efficient, and sustainable team structure 🌱 ⚠️Hybrid remote is a tease—a half-in, half-out, half-assed approach to enriching your team's lives and driving your company's success with fully engaged, happy employees. At Silver Creek Insights, #freedom is our philosophy. We bring together the best talent from across the globe to deliver high-impact work at the highest possible value—and at the lowest cost to our clients. Let’s accomplish great things together, no matter where you are in the world. 🕵🏽TLDR: Leaders, stop trying to control your employees and instead focus on inspiring and enabling your team to succeed (without you looking over their shoulder). The Art of Building a Remote Team (and Why Mandatory "Hybrid" Policies Are BS) – My Journey (Pt.1) - from me, CEO at Silver Creek Insights. THE OFFICE IS OVERRATED. Unless you’re building rockets to Mars with Elon Musk, you don’t need to be in the same room to accomplish incredible things as a team. I graduated from the University of Colorado - Boulder on a Saturday, and by Monday, I was starting my career at Xerox Corporation. As the youngest Xeroid in the Denver office, I was ready to take on the world. I had ambitions of becoming the best Services and Solutions Executive and, one day, CEO (a bit ambitious and perhaps delusional, I know - ha). I imagined myself shaking things up from the office—wheeling, dealing, and making it rain from that god-awful stuffy cubicle life. But on my first day, my manager threw me a curveball: "Here’s your budget to set up your remote office." 🤑 Wait, what? I didn’t have to work from the office? I had mixed feelings. How would leadership notice I was the rising star who could sell anything to anyone? How would they see my talent, my drive, and my ambition? But then it hit me: this was actually awesome. I could work from home with my dog, Duke, and my cat, Grizzly. There would be no commutes, no office distractions, just pure focus (and the occasional no-pants day—no video calls =). Fast forward, and I was hooked. Remote work wasn’t just a perk—it was a game-changer. I’ve been working remotely long before COVID made it cool. You could say I’m an OG in the remote work game. So, what did my journey teach me about building a remote team? It’s simple: A great team isn’t about geography; it’s about shared goals, values, and accountability. When you focus on talent, trust, and mission alignment, your team can achieve remarkable things—regardless of where they’re based. Great results are unbounded by physical location restrictions. #remotework #liveyourlife #whatisbalancefor💯 #goglobal 🌐🗺️ Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll share the critical elements of building a world-class remote team and explain why mandatory hybrid policies are ineffective. ❓Where is one place you'd like to work from to feel most inspired? Please answer a place in the world and your thoughts on #remotelife.❔ For me, nothing is better than a summer in Greece for daily swims before afternoon calls.

At SCi we believe that curiosity is one of the biggest driving forces for meaningful success.  In our recent podcast with Mary Beth Ottley COO at Excess Telecom, we asked for her advice for success, especially for people interested in having a diversified career path. Her answer? Staying curious.  "My advice would be to be curious and always willing to learn something new. My path actually started in IT and I continued to grow cross-functionally because anytime I worked with the team, I tried to really understand how they contributed to the organization as a whole." -Mary Beth Ottley Check out the full episode for more insights.
