We are usually taught at school to be leaders, to learn how to make important decisions and manage a team. But no school teaches you what you need to learn first, how to be a successful subordinate. Remember when you were at school and thought of a schoolmate as "the teacher's pet", those mates usually were the best students, never gave any issue, they were always attentive, educated and focused on their studies. Translating this to the work environment is simple: 1) Exceed your goals. 2) Focus on your job and your boss's needs. 3) Do not engage un rumour mongering. 4) Actively listen to what your boss require from you. 5) Train yourself to improve in areas where your boss needs help.

No juntemos la gimnasia con la magnesia. La asertividad y la empatía son conceptos distintos. Ambos deben de ser cultivados de forma independiente. El problema que noto muy seguido es su priorización, es decir, generalmente se usa la “asertividad” antes que la empatía. La empatía siempre debe de ser el punto de partida. ¿Qué pasa cuando la empatía no esta presente y se usa la asertividad desbocada? Respuesta: Ambiente tóxico. Antes de ser “asertivo”, piensa si tu estuvieras escuchando lo que vas a decir. Siempre puedes ser asertivo sin dejar de ser respetuoso.

What do you do if your HR team mishandles failure?
When we experience failure you will feel hopeless, disappointment, guilty, etcetera. Those feelings are not productive, and push you down. Acknowledge them, recognize them but consider the following: "If you are not making mistakes, that means you are not working." If you made a mistake, error, failure o setback, whatever you wanna call it, don't just go with your tail between your legs to your boss and ask for forgiveness and help to solve it. Investigate, create, gather, research all possible solutions. Maybe one of those can be done all by yourself. Next meeting you go and mention you failed, and maybe you already solve it, or you already have a rolodex of actionable solutions. Then make plans to prevent that from happening.
